As we watch people being left behind in Afganistan it reminded many people of the time of Vietnam and when we knew we left men their. Political action often causes many heart break. Yet at the same time, for what purpose has God left them behind. As we watch California fires and also many other states fires cause rapid destruction of forest, house, building and so forth we wonder why God even in his faithfulness would allow such things. Tornadoes that plague our nation in states that have not been known for tornadoes are not known for tornadoes, and let us not leave off earthquakes, or even volcanoes before the pandemic. Rockslides, mudslides, and flooding all part of the news world today. We see nature fury as if it makes no real sense to us why God would allow such devastating acts. Then I reminded time of Israel there were people of faith going through the storms because of the sins of Israel. Yet Israel and Judah were all taken captive. Jeremiah is the author of Lamatations. His woes and his heart break over just human life plague him perhaps.
Jeremiah knew God was faithful, that his faithfulness was great. We look around can we echo the words God faithfulness is great. Can we in our storms still claim this. It is God's mercy our nation is not consumed. It is God's mercy his judgment does not wipe us out. Yet is everything God's judgment? Most of us would agree we do not remember such storms as we are now been able to keep up with, then I think social media and computers has made us all closer, in which we are able to keep up with things more rapidly. Telephones, and letters from home were the only communication until the computer age. Did the people of the fifty and sixties feel the impact of phone knowledge? Letters unopened and returned left a huge impact of questions for centuries. The disappearance and reappearance of love ones before technology left one with questions often times of will someone return.
The world around us right now with technology may be giving us an overwhelming amount of knowledge and information of those that are dear to us. Yet we have to ask ourselves has things changed, is this God's wrath, or is it nature's fury. Turn on the tv, there is violence, there is grossness in our movies and there is not shows of peace and safety, with only the normal run of the mill problems in life. No one thinks about the day after the Die Hard movies or Lethal Weapon, no one cares beyond that fact the bad guy got human justice.
Jews are in exile and are facing hard times, yet Jeremiah able to say Great is God's faithfulness. Can Afganistan people that in our refuge camps claim the same. Can those that have lost everything today say the same. Those words are hard despite the spiritual context and knowledge of truth. If we be human for only a moment, the crisis might out weigh the spiritual wakefulness of people in the first waking of new life within walls of fences.
What then can we has believers still claim in our hurts, pains, our sorrows, our punishments from God and all these things that come our way about God's greatness, faithfulness and mercy. When your pain is a part of your life for many years, when your crisis is the overwhelm part of who you are, then to be overcomer seems impossible, but can you still claim the greatness of God? Truth be told the word greatness will always apply to God, but our ability to say the words in a trial might be as yes I know it, but I am going through something right now leave me alone. God if you going to help no more storms, no more rocks in the path and no more dismembering of hands and feet will ya. Then the reality check of who it is we approach with our sorrow, our pain, our humility and where does our learned humility come from but God.
Our storms, our crisis and our over whelming need to fight for and against God in the same breath is based on our knowledge of how great God is. How great a teacher and shepherd he is in life. He allows us to stumble and to fall so he can pick us up, he can use these things to teach us of his mercy, love and his greatness. Our way maybe a path of destruction, but God's way is not. If you seeing your foot sliding on ice remember you should of worn shoe chains or not gone out at all. Sometimes we need to wait on God to melt off the ice, and snow and other times, we need the snow to keep from being knee deep in mud. Life is crazy that way. God knows what it takes to bring us to our knees for us to look up to him and not own wisdom or sense of justice.
Jeremiah and the people felt God had forsaken them, but he was right there waiting for the people to see that they needed him. Hell is one place we will see the need of God and will not be able to repent. Here on earth we still got choices.
Dear Heavenly Father you are faithful to your people despite our understanding of life and the judgments you bring upon your people in times of destruction, loss of our homes, loss of human life and even our despair. You are faithful because the minute we seek you, your arms are wide open, and you there to aid us in our storm, even when we do not understand. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
