God's Story: Lesson 13
12/13/2021

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 1:46-58 KJV
46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
54 He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
55 As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
57 Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
58 And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.

Mary does magnify the Lord upon hearing and seeing all the angels said was true and the words and sight of Elizabeth being six months pregnant. She rejoices because God chose her to be favor despite her low estate as his handmaiden(servant by faith) and the world would call her blessed. Even at the trial of Jesus one high priest ask him "art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed"? Everyone knew who Mary and Jesus was. Mary exalted perhaps because she was the mother of Jesus, and yet she was just a servant of the Lord, chosen to be blessed by God in a unique way of carrying God's offspring within her. She magnifies God in the memories of the ancients of her ancestor Abraham, and Jacob and their call of God in their own life. She exalts God for his mercy on those that are hungry by the provision of a meal.

Mary would stay about three months with Elizabeth, no doubt til the time of Elizabeth to give birth and then traveled home. Elizabeth rejoicing at her son's birth and no doubt Mary was rejoicing with her, for they knew that John would be forerunner of Christ and Mary's Son would be the Christ child. A lot of rejoicing by the cousins that heard her news.

You and I can imagine part of the joy, most of us know the excitment of a neighbor or family member having a new baby, or just being pregnant. It is possible that someone has not been around a woman that been pregnant or even seen a baby being born on social media, but the truth is, there is joy when the next generation is coming along. There is joy knowing that generation has hope, there is joy, just knowing that more offspring are coming physically, and each generation must make a decision to believe in Christ.

There are times when child birth alone is with sorrow, because of future does not seem bright, or death of baby born, or unborn occurs. Yet imagine carrying the offspring that would save the world for future generations. Now think for a moment we understand the blessing all the way to the cross as the priesthood did not, yet they were aware of who Jesus was, the son of blessed. It meant for the priesthood the coming of the Messiah that their role was not as important, yet they carried on the feast day that Jesus observed and probably still performed the sacrifices. There lives in turmoil at each new story that reach their ears of healing and resurrection of Lazarus and the knowledge their importance would decrease. There was no joy or peace at the time of Christ and John the Baptist the forerunner of Christ birth. Yet the people rejoiced at the words of God fullfilling his prophecy, though no one could understand Christ purpose in his coming beyond knowing he would heal the blind, the sick and people from their diseases. The forerunner was born in a priest family. Priesthood themselves a forerunner of Christ, but not the forerunner of Christ. God was sending a forerunner that was designed for the purpose of being before Christ, though in family of the priesthood. John to would have to decrease, to the point he loose his own life.

For the world to receive Christ the forerunner, the priesthood would have to come to an end, though this is hard to grasp, because we think of a need of the priesthood after the time of Christ just like the need of a physician or the need for the law. Christ being King of what our hearts until his return, it is not our job to unite us as believers in the since of unity of the Spirit, it is God's job to unite us by His work through his Spirit. The need for a spiritual king, not a king of doctors, religious legallism, or laws by a government, but a law that is signed and sealed by God's Spirit in our hearts. That we obey God because of our love for him and rejoice because of this spiritual king, who unites the believers together, even from a distance or a long divide of physical divisions.

Where are we in the world, of joy. Pictures of the tornado in Kentucky, of a lady finding the church bells, and then ringing them. Perhaps reminds me their christmas though their town, village, and churches destroy, there was hope still found in Christ Jesus. It will be the picture that will be etched in my mind this Christmas season. We can not know the pain without living life. Pain in life comes in many foremats but the pain of life, if we obey the laws, our doctors, and church leaders we still find pain and sorrow within. Yet we find something else within all these three groups of people science, laws, and spirituality. Spirituality must come by one's heart decision to know Christ that manifested then by our labor of love(not our labor of love becoming our spirituality), to know even in hardship there is still joy and hope, that even in the mist of everything seeming perfect, that life is what you make of it, no it learning to deal with the hand you are dealt, with spiritual joy, faith, peace and hope within it, when you receive Christ. It means that you may be rich, and you may poor, but you have Jesus you have something that the world chooses not to have, and has not known in their heart. The knowledge we can come to Jesus, come rejoicing, come in sorrow, come as we are knowing he aids us in our walk to know him. By demonstrating his love through his Word, and by his Spirit, with signs, miracles, and wonders that speak to our heart who our Lord is. And just like Mary because of this we can still magnify God. Even in Mary sorrow at the cross, she found hope as John a disciple of Jesus took her home to be his mother, and him to be her son. Then the resurrection occurs and Christ to claim his mother heart once more, only to leave the earth once more. Mary sorrow turn to joy and then more joy as her son ascends and yet also still feeling perhaps the sorrow of knowing he no longer physically with her. Yet she is called blessed, because she carried her Lord within her womb, within her heart upon belief in him, and her joy restored upon the resurrection. Jesus only tarried 40 days after the resurrection in Galilee. Yet the disciple, his brethern, his mother would of known the specialness of his stay with them, giving them a renewed hope of him being king of the hearts and in the New Jerusalem. Will you rejoice and magnify the Lord in your heart, and believe that he is the risen Messiah, receiving him into your heart, because he came to save us from our sins.

Dear Heavenly Father, help me this week to magnify Christ at his coming, Lord help each one reading to mediate on your word, Christ birth, cross, resurrection and ascension. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
