God's Story: Lesson 11 12/11/2021
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisIsaiah 7:10-16 KJV
10 Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,
11 Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.
13 And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.
16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.
Isaiah was before King Ahaz and told him to ask in either in the depth or the heighth above, meaning depth of the earth or heighth above him. Ahaz answer with does the house of David wearies men but do you have to weary/tire out God also? Ahaz a heathen seen the fatigue of evidence of God's love for Israel, yet he himself did wickedly in the sight of God. I wonder about the world sometimes what they see in return about a nation that suppose to represent God and Christ, when a sign or evidence of him being with us is necessary. Evidence of his love for man. Paul in Romans 8 talks about the heighth and deepth of God's love, despite the persecution of the saints. The need for a sign, the evidence of God all around. The time of Rome in Jerusalem, the liberty of captives, the liberty of the temple, the liberty of the time in which the king of peace would come to the world as a sign and testimony of God's love for man.
Can we recognize the sign give as one of love, one of peace, one of hope and one faith. If God is going to give you anything why not receive it. Ahaz could not receive the sign offered instead he angry for the offering, refusing it so to speak, and the Lord still gives the sign to Ahaz. Think for a moment who is Ahaz a wicked king, one that tore down the altars of the Lord and yet God is still offering a sign of love and peace to him. Can we grasp the love of God despite our own evil may reach the heighth of heaven at times.
The punishment of the saints need verification of a sign that the punishment is over, or was it a sinner in need of a sign that punishment is over. That God's sign of peace is here, and yet man still refuses God's sign, who is the son of God. The compassion of God is it refused? God sent his love in two formats by his word in the form of his blessings or his wrath. We do not want to think of God's judgment as form of love, but it does show a heathen and God's people the power of God's judgment on man, and yet he desires to give us peace demonstrates his power to love, to restrain his judgment on man. How long does man endure persecution, neglect and evil around them without voicing their angry, resentment and trying to take charge of the situation if possible to end it without a sign. Ahaz had no love but a wicked heart, and God offering a sign of peace and love to him was not cutting it for him. Those that worshipped Baal were given two signs a star in the east and the virgin birth. People in need of hope and not war. God's people going through exile knew God's love and peace in the storm, the heathens did not.
It is the ungodly that seek signs for evidence of God's prophecy unfolding so they know when to repent. Yet it is pure joy to believer as God brings impossible events to life to defeat the enemy every time. God's signs are spoken and welcomed by the believer. They are not unwelcomed. Yet the signs of devils are unwelcomed and unwanted. The only signs of devils that are beneficial is when you hear them falling to there knees in repentance as a sign of God.
Abraham was told by God Sodom and Gomorrah would be destroyed, yet when it happened the only one looking back was Lot's wife to see for sure what had happened and she turned to a pillar of salt. Do we only fall at the destruction of God's fury, or do we fall at his glory and works of miracles? Abraham knew God's business, Lot's wife knew not, could not just take the words of those the propelled them out of a city.
We all want to see the blessings of hope. The blessings of God's people being blessed and not going through struggles. The devil wants only to see God's people persecuted, stalked, and seeking evidence of their imperfections, to ridicule, to judge, to find offense so on the day of judgment before Christ says that one you accuse is one of mine, the devil hopes to say but lord look at the sins of this person, so don't judge me by what your people do. And God going to say, "What did my people do, I didn't see a thing, the blood of Christ covered it all". I do talk about signs but I do not go around seeking signs and evidence of God or Christ coming, and perhaps the reason is simple enough, I going to take God at his word. Yet at the same time we are not blind to the evidence of God's soon return, because God is clear about what those signs look like. With struggles, pain, heart break and storms, there is a tomorrow and the eternal hope of no more pain, no more suffering, no more heart break and no more storms. The perfect being beyond the grave and at the rapture of Christ's people.
If God is going to give us sign we are not to refuse it as believers. If God is going to give us hope of how long we might suffer or to have a choice in our life to make, then we must ask ourselves are we choosing the ways of God. Ahaz need not a sign of God and he was wicked. What does it tell you as a believer when you need or desire the evidence of God is with you, or going to bring hope and peace to his people. God said I going to give this to a future generation. Generations that would need evidence of God in order to believe. Thomas when he seen Jesus in John 20, he needed no more evidence though the nail scarred hands and Jesus side is shown to him. Blessed are those that believe that have seen him not. God gives us signs to help our unbelief, but are they necessary for our belief. The virgin birth a sign to the world of God's love for mankind. One more thing we have to rest our hope in, is our eternity will not be like the world we are in now at the present. That it truly is a place of complete healing and life of joy in Christ and God.
Dear Heavenly Father, strength our hope that even with our weakness of faith at times, we no long stumble at the cross, but kneel in reverence to it. That the virgin birth a sign to the heathens, and God's people of your love for them. A sign for the unbeliever and believer and we thank you for the sign of hope. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

15 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:
16 He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
