Matthew 8:1-4 KJV
1 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
I do not care how old we are, or how much faith we have the ability to say Jesus can you make me clean sounds like simple words, until you realize the thing that causing the disease as no cure, no treatment and not solution beyond the healing power of God. We do not know how long this leper had leprosy, but he had faith that Jesus could make him whole and so he knelt and worshipped Jesus despite whether Jesus would heal him or not. He first worshipped then he received healing, by making his request known to Jesus. Jesus said he would as he stretch forth his hand and touch him. Then Jesus told him to go offer the gifts that Moses commanded as a testimony to the priest. Story is simple enough but the truth still remains, he still honor the law of Moses, the sacrifice of purification and the duty to show the priest that God was working through Jesus.
God faithful to those that worship him, and make request known to him, for he answer still. Has Christ reach forth to heal, he did not refuse this man. The sacrificial law and purification law still in place until the cross. Then the purification came through Christ death and resurrection, and the sacrifical law fulfilled in the cross alone. At the time of Christ the Jewish customs were still in observance and non done away with as Christ, taught, healed, and demonstrated his power.
Jesus ability to heal the leper was fully seen by the crowd around him. Jesus did not come in like a storm, to make change but as a lamb, but he go out like lion of Judah through the cross and resurrection. Though he is lead to the cross like a lamb, he is crucified and sacrificed for you and me. A king holding his peace and saying forgive them. Looking on his people as sheep, who would follow him blindly to the cross, paying the price for the consequences of obeying God. Yet his faithful as we follow blindly and yet fully aware of the price and cost of following Jesus might mean in our world even today.
Why follow Jesus? Jesus is the savior, the light to the world. He our healer, our rescuer from evil and the reminder to us of the hope of eternal life. The resurrection of the first born of God, but not the last to be spiritually born of God by his Spirit. His ability not to perish but have everlasting life. He was from the beginning and of old, from the minute God spoke let their be light or in God's thinking and then action word going forth and his spirit made the light happen.
This leper knew Jesus could heal him so he worshipped. Do we worship Jesus because we know he can save us, heal us, deliver us, and keep his promise to us of eternal life? It is not enough to say Christ is our healer, but to say God's word is hope and his word is faithful to us that believe. Can you wait on the healing that is promised, can you wait on the hope he has offered.
Dear Heavenly Father move in the hearts of your people that your word will breath new life of hope of your reality of who you are and who your Son is by your Spirit. Let us not give up our hope when things go not as we plan, but wait upon the day of healing as promised to each and everyone of your children. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Micah 5:7-15 KJV
7 And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.
8 And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
9 Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.
10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:
11 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:
12 And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:
13 Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.
14 And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.
15 And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.
