Every Sunday A Psalms: Seeing God's Judgment
9/27/2015

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Psalms 54:1-7 KJV
(1) To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when the Ziphims came and said to Saul, Doth not David hide himself with us? Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength.
(2) Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth.
(3) For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah.
(4) Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.
(5) He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.
(6) I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD; for it is good.
(7) For he hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.

Dealing with seeing God’s wrath and judgment. There are things one knows is truly the hand of God. Then there other things in life not so easily understood. A death of a young person or the life of those that seem more righteous then others even down to their giving seems unfair to the world, yet we neither can see the heart or the motives behind a persons heart for doing good things. When someone is evil it makes it easy to understand the truth of God’s judgment. If you watch enough movies where the villain always looses, no one minds him dying, it when the hero dies at the end that the people do not like.

David had sinned with Bathesheba and found himself at war with his own kingdom all because of plot to kill Bathesheba husband. David was not known for being a villian yet his heart had need adjustment. David short loss of the kingdom only reminded him of how hard he fought against his enemies, how truth and righteousness always won even if it meant repentance, even for himself. Yet it was the enemy that attacked that plotted against that would see the wrath of God. Absalom hung in a tree by his own head of hair. Absalom beauty only skin deep and inward he was a raging lion. David’s own son would die a horrible death, because of his beauty and his desire to be king not by the will of God but the will of his own heart to replace his own father.

The judgments of life and truth David had to face was with his own flesh and blood. He seen the reality of God’s judgment because he knew his son. He knew son and his actions and attitudes and knew the hand of God’s judgment in his own life. Yet God spared him and he knew he come through the judgment a little burnt perhaps, but wiser knowing that sin was punishable by God and would be punished. That just because God did not punish every mistake, God did judge and also did it publicly. God judgment is awesome to behold but brings not only a victory dance, but sorrow. David felt that sorrow with His own, yet he many victories in battle.

David knew not only the judgment of God but the truth of God’s word, even for judgment. If we must be judged let be by our Creator and not the world, yet the world will always judge. I myself have seen the judgment of God in my life and life of others. I know the judgment of God is quick, but not without mercy. David lost of his second son probably in one since not has hard as the lost of the first son. For this son had gone against his authority as king and father.

The role of God defined by God as Creator and judge, is defined by truth. Evil will always will be punished. Not always the same way as before. For Cain was banished from God for killing Abel and David was only banished from his kingdom for a time for killing Bathesheba husband. Two death for different reasons, one of jealousy and one because of covetness of another man’s wife. Both deaths because they thought they had the right to control and play God. God showed mercy to both, yet one repented and one did not. The one that did not repent would face eternity without God and the one that repented found forgiveness and even mercy. Truth will always reign and repentance must come in order to receive forgiveness and mercy. Where are you today in regards to sin in your own life of jealousy, covetness, lust, murderous thoughts, stealing, lying, cheating, dealing dirty in business and so forth? It matters what others think it about God’s view of what we do that matters. Let us allow God to govern our action and walk in his judgment, grace and mercy with our knees kneeling before His throne.

This Psalm had nothing to do with David judgment in his life but at the time when David hid inside a cave with Saul. David should Saul more mercy then Saul showed David by not killing him. Yet it perhaps the reason God showed mercy to David because of his ability to show mercy when no taken in by the beauty of a woman. Yet judgment of God came to Saul in his last battle that he lost.

Dear Heavenly Father give me grace to accept your judgment and seek your forgiveness for your mercy and grace when I fail you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
