Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

2 Timothy 1:5-10 KJV
(5) When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
(6) Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
(7) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
(8) Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
(9) Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
(10) But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

Train up a child in the way he should go and he will not depart from it. Timothy from early childhood was taught the ways of God by his grandmother and mother. Two very important people in his life that explain the Gospel of Jesus to him. Yet Paul would take him under is wing so to speak and teach him more about tradition of Jews and faith in Christ Jesus. It is enough to know just the Gospel of Jesus without knowing all the Old Testament. Yet the Old Testament expounds on things concerning the coming of Christ and how we know He was more then just a man in flesh, but the Messiah, Emmanuel (God with us). How Christ was from the beginning of old and even to present time as well as future. Paul would explained traditions perhaps his father who was a Greek would not of known. There is no indication of whether or not Timothy’s father was a Christian. So the fact that Paul become an elder and a father in faith to him, is to explain Timothy was young and still needed guidance and instruction.

Paul was thankful for the instruction Timothy already had by his grandmother and mother. He knew that what they taught was truth and solid. Solid that the foundation Timothy was built on was Jesus. That the only instruction was education and certain spiritual truths that Timothy was working on in his life and as a minister.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the elders in our life that have spoken truth about your word to our ears that we might receive the truth of your Spirit speaking to us. Continue to teach us and enable us to listen to those who have wisdom we have yet to obtain or you are working on us about. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
