Empowerment Of The Twelve
10/25/2019

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Mark 3:13-19 KJV
13 And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him.
14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,
15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:
16 And Simon he surnamed Peter;
17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:
18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite,
19 And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house.

When Jesus choose his twelve disciples in the beginning he sent them forth to preach, to have power to heal and to cast out devils, then he would choose seventy more for this same purpose. However Jesus choose a close knit group of people to begin with for the work of the ministry. He goes up this mountain and he picks them like one might choose a players for a team. On every team there is a loser, not all are always for the team. Judas Iscariot would be the devil that would betray Jesus, but Judas was also part of the twelve. He would work along side Jesus keeping the money bag. Of course you have to do some searching to know Judas kept the money. Yet you got the other eleven that would continue in ministry until their own death whether through torcher like Peter crucified upside down or James John's brother was beheaded, Andrew was stoned and crucified and Philip was said to have been crucified but minister for 25 years plus. Bartholomew was put in a sac and cast in the sea to be drown. Matthew, Thomas and Simon the Cannanite died as marytr. No idea how Thaddaeus died, not much is mention by the commentaries I use on him when checking history. Judas committed suicide for he could not find forgiveness he sought for his betrayal. John was the only one not to die a marytrs death or by his own hand.

If these disciples of Christ had understood the cost would they have followed Jesus, the answer is not known. Yet what we know is the call started out simple only to be weighed down with what would become of each one of them as Jesus spoke to the disciples in John 21. The cross of Jesus not one anyone wants to carry, and yet in truth it is like a warrior going to battle knowing he might die but willing to, to win the battle. As a disciples of Christ we might not have much to worry in land of freedom or other parts of the world but being a mayrtr for Jesus in some parts of the world is a known cross still to exist today and everyday. Yet with the cross of Christ there will always be opposition, for Christ came to bring peace and enemy just desire to destroy because it also means turning toward a living God and some people just do not desire God in their life. Some might feel it to restrictive not seeing the benefits of serving Jesus. Not seeing the benefits of serving God in the since of loving God and others. Self sacrifice of caring for others is sometimes not seen as a worthy battle. the attitude of some is they are dying anyway, why help. The caring for those in need will be on going battle til Christ returns. We are all dying to sin, until salvation through Christ came. Teaching people the hope of faith, the hope of tomorrow and the hope of eternity. Yet it all begins with faith, love and hope in Christ Jesus, the word of God. The word of God bring hope to the world and mercy to all that believe.

Why would anyone be willing including disciples be willing to suffer for others, the living hope Christ before them. Every believer comes to the reality of a living Savior. If you walk the pages of the Old and New Testament you can find why the hope of Christ was so needed. Not one person is worthy of salvation without forgiveness. Forgiveness being part of the Old and New Testament, but the sacrifice for sin completed and done away with through the shed blood of Christ so the need for marytrism is no longer needed but exist because of the opposition to the Gospel. Jesus would call twelve first to be the closes to him and would discuss things not discussed in large group and then he would call more to follow him and demonstrate the power given to each disciple. That power given by the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Okay let stop right there. The Holy Spirit baptism was at the time of the first call of the disciples. Why would the Holy Spirit filling be needed in Acts. There are three time periods of healing. We see healing in the Old Testament before Christ, during Christ and after Christ ascension. The power of God bestow on first the prophets and religious leaders of Old Testament. Jesus gave that same power to the disciple, and then after the ascension to the empowerment of the Holy Spirit that would come on the disciples. Stop for a moment at the cross the Spirit left Jesus physical human body. God's Spirit left him and went to heaven and Christ Spirit went to hell to let the captivities free. Christ would breath on the disciples in the upper room, but God's Spirit would still have to descend on the day of pentecoste. Christ would anoint the disciples first in person by breathing on them life of the Spirit and then God would anoint with His Spirit of power.

Let me explain it another way we learn about Jesus and his power to save, we are taught his power and baptised in the knowledge and wisdom of Christ, then we are taught in the wisdom and power of the Holy Spirit. We taught about God from Old To New Testament, we are taught about God by understanding there is a God. The Baptism of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Jesus taught about God, the Holy Spirit and himself, but the testimony of Jesus comes from God and the Holy Spirit. The testimony of each comes from each other. This power to heal in the being was the being of testimony of the power of God to be performed by individual through prayer to the Father, and in the name of Jesus, the authority given by the authority of Jesus and signet/seal by his name of authority. Authority given to man by the word of God of old and new.

Let us not be deceived by soothesayers that think they can buy your healing, or buy a circus act of faith. Faith comes by hearing the word of God not by magic act. Devils masked as Christians been using magic acts for years. Yet those that preach the word know the power of Jesus and know his healing power. Take warning of those that just want to demonstrate power of God and not teach the word of God. The word is the first healing that comes to man, it the power that comes later that restores the body for eternity. God still heals like in the time of Christ and apostles, but what are we searching for a quick fix or God. God does miracles to increase faith in Him. As disciples went from town to town ahead of Jesus preparing the way for the message to be taught people pressed around Jesus just to be healed, not always receiving the spiritual healing they needed for their eyes were blinded to who He was. Prehaps blinded because the power Jesus had was seen also in the prophets of long ago.

You want faith study God's word, you only want a miracle, you are in need of the living Lord his name is Jesus. Where is your faith, it only takes a small amount of faith and repentance to know the power of healing of forgiveness first and for most. Yet sometime healing comes to increase that faith God knows the heart, we can not.

Dear Heavnely Father thank you for the miracles of faith, and the hope that comes from faith as well as the works of miracles throughout a life time. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Luke 10:1-2 KJV
1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

John 21:17-23 KJV
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
