12 And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.
13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.
14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.
17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.
18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.
19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen. Rock of Ages was written by Reverend Augustus Mortague Toplady (1740-1778), he was a minister in the Church of England. HIs early life considered of being raised by his mother after his father life, and being very sick most of his childhood. He became a minister at 22. He believe a believer could have a personal relationship with God and so one of the songs that came from God inspired relationship was Rock of Ages. A cherish hymn of many Christian Churches even today. Are we hide in Christ are we sheltered in his loving embrace today. As believers I hope this is one of your songs as a reminder of his covering through His shed blood, water and his grace.
Today I am taking a passage of scripture passage that follows the chapter when Israel kills all that bowed to the golden calf that refused to trust in God. A time of purifying the camp came, as well as Moses taking time to search out his relationship with God's as well as Israel relationship with God. Are we hide from God's glory for our own protection. Watching news last night a forecaster decided to show us how a cloud was made. The ingredients for making a cloud. This morning I was thinking on the covering of the clouds in the sky, but also God's protection that came from the cloud before Israel during the day and behind them at night as they walked through the desert. None of us can imagine this time of covering. If you ever driven through fog on a mountain side, or seen clouds on a high mountain that you can drive your car right through or by them, you get the idea of what it is like to be covered by God. You can see nothing before you and nothing after you, only the thickness of the clouds. If you walking in the clouds you literally have to watch your step to not go off a clef, or over the mountainside.
Is Old Testament only a figure of speech of expression of faith and experience by what they can related it too, in actual experience of faith? We might not see God but we feel his presence. We might not see God but the walk of faith is often walking blindly to the voice of God and doing his will. Walking with God is not always seeing the road ahead but trusting that God is leading us down a narrow pathway, with all kinds of dangers around us.
Moses and the people had sinned, and Moses and the people went outside the camp and prayed to God. Were they afraid that God would destroy the camp, perhaps so. Yet it goes greater then this, the people had sinned by killing, even though those they had killed were enemies of God, God had the ability to destroy himself. Moses had ordered the killing as a ruler not as a prophet of God. God's laws said thou shalt not kill. Now Israel in jeopardy of being forsaken by God, but God reassures Moses that his children Israel are still his people. That His own relationship is protected. Faith being much more in the protection of the beleiver then fully understood even by Moses. One can easily forget Moses was still new to leading a group of people that had been placed by God on the shoulders of Moses. There spiritual well being rested on the intercession he makes to God for the people. Moses as a new leader is still unsure of God's grace and mercy, for he ask God for sign of his grace and mercy allowing him to see God's glory(face). God said no man can see my face, if I revealed it, they would die. Yet God gave Moses a sign of seeing his glory's backside after He covered him in the clefs of the rocks. He would place his hand over Moses and cover him as He past by and he could see his backside.
We follow in Christ footsteps, not seeing God's face, but seeing where He had gone before us. If we were not God's people would God give evidence of going before us. Would God give evidence of His power enriching our lives for His glory? Sin is sin in God's eyes, but we covered by His grace for us. One does not stop being his people because of sin, but repentance must come. Seeking God must come after our mistakes. Seeking God must come so God grace can abound in our life as we move forward in his grace. His covering between us and Him is for our benefit. It is to know we are in his protection and will, but also still his children. God sent his only Son Jesus to be the propiator for our sins. He sent Jesus to be peace offering for our sin. To understand his grace and forgiveness, is not based on our ability but His grace. He loves us as we are. Are we hide in Christ through his covering through the blood shed for you and I.
In Old Testament one of the sin offering services including the sprinkling of the lamb, or bull's blood on the people for their sin as a nation. Most of us would agree this sounds gross until you understand the symbol of the blood sprinkling is a covering for sin, a symbol of sacrifice. Christ blood took away the need for a Lamb or bull to be sacrificed, but the gift of God allowing man to sacrifice his Son, for only His Son to say forgive them Father they know not what they do. Can forgiveness be that simple to understand that God covered our sin, to know God's power to redeem is greater then our sin and the relationship He has called us to his to humbly follow his Son carrying our cross toward Him.
Our strive our focus needs to be on Christ. If you listen to Christian music long enough the word of God is often removed or missing from lyrics of songs today. Though some songs testify to personal stories of faith, they also sometimes leave out the word God, Christ, and Holy Spirit, making way for them to be used in country music world without the correct knowledge or intent the song was original use was for. The devil does the same thing. He disguises as a sheep only to make a fortune elsewhere. There is a point, we can not mask ourselves or protect ourselves from God's wrath. There is no hyper space craft, or special boat outside the ark that people can be saved or protected in. God must provide the forgiveness and protection for all mankind. God declares his protection and yet do we accept His protection? Do we receive His protection? Do we allow God's covering so we do not face eternal lake of fire that burns for eternity. Are you willing to walk in the wilderness of life, protected and lead by Christ over the mountains, through the valleys and over the roads of faith, knowing get off the path leads to destruction, and repentance leads to hope.
Dear Heavenly Father remind us of your marvelous grace and the protection in the clefs of life, where your hand covers us so we can only follow, not fully grasping who you are, but giving us the ability to follow covered by your grace. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
