Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Genesis 22:3-19 KJV
(3) And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
(4) Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
(5) And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
(6) And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
(7) And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
(8) And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
(9) And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
(10) And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
(11) And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
(12) And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
(13) And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
(14) And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
(15) And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
(16) And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
(17) That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
(18) And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
(19) So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.

Most people want some money for support of their family and to be able to do the things they love. Some people want to be fifthly rich that they will do any job whether it there calling or not to do it. Anyone can train to be a doctor or lawyer to make money it takes compassion in these jobs to be any good. To be a business executive you got to be ruthless to some degree or you will loose more money then you make. Yet with no compassion in big business you loose customers and employees. There has to be a middle ground between ruthless operation and compassion. To be a politician and runt he country there is time to be ruthless and time to show compassion and sometimes those two things do not mix will.

God in his love demonstrates ruthlessness to see if Abraham had enough faith to take his Son to be sacrificed on the altar. The only son born of natural conception by his first wife. He cast out the bonds woman and her son by him. Abraham sacrificed his first son by the bonds woman for the sake of his first family yet Isaac was born second. Ishmael, Abraham son by the bonds lived in the desert and is known to be father to twelve Arabic tribes. God did not cast them out. God would send his Son into the world to be sacrificed by the world. Christ is our substitution for eternal death and torment. God asked Abraham to take his only son Isaac to the altar. Abraham did not with hold his son but took him and before he could kill him God provided a ram. God stopped Abraham from killing his Son. No man tried to stop the killing of Jesus but Roman ruler Pilot. Pilot washed his hands before Israel a symbol of not allowing the blood of Jesus that would be shed for you and me to be on his shoulders. Pilot had the power to stop it. Pilot a gentile. Yet it was God’s will for Jesus to die for you and me. To pay the price of our transgression.

Did Abraham have to cast his son out, or could he forgiven him with correction, along with his second wife. Was his second wife sin, only in regards of not believing God was able to enable Sarah to conceive. Believing God for the promise land was easier for Abraham. Abraham was still willing to obey God but he did not know if he was forgiven, except through the substitution sacrifice of the ram. Man did not substitution anything for the death of Jesus. There were religious leaders that knew who Jesus was suppose to be. They knew His mother was said to be a virgin. They knew the Messiah came to heal, They knew that He came to die in for our sins. They also knew of the ability of resurrection. If Jesus was Son of God He would rise again. If He was the Christ He would rise again. Man’s hearts were harden to the events unfolding of Jesus being lead to the cross. Man’s hearts were harden at the trial of Jesus by the religious court and even Herod. Jesus went to the cross knowing by His death, His broken word we could live. His broken word being mercy, grace and truth for mankind. The sin of one man killed all his offspring and sentence them to hell, but God’s compassion sent His Son to pay the price of our sins. It only through his mercy that he allowed his word to be broken for you and me. His blood poured out for you and me. Through the resurrection, we gain eternal life.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the gift of your Son who died on the cross for my sins, so we could live eternally with Him. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:Hebrews 2:9-10 KJV
(9) But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
(10) For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
