Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Romans 7:14-25 KJV
(14) For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
(15) For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
(16) If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
(17) Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
(18) For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
(19) For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
(20) Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
(21) I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
(22) For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
(23) But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
(24) O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
(25) I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

It is one of those weeks, and I running late this morning and it is not helping my situation. However this morning I am reminded of this passage in Romans of Paul writing expressing his desire to live spiritually unto God but being yoke with another law within himself. Adam and Eve sold into sin by their first act of disobedience caused us all to be yoked into the world of sin. Yet God through Christ our Savior purchased all believers from the devil, yet the war within us to obey God and disobey God still exist. Our government reflects both godly laws and laws of the devil. Yet the laws of God to have a choice is well in place in America until they our government robs us of our constitutional rights. The inward man wrestles with a law of sin just like every Christian wrestles with governmental laws that go against our faith. Any law forcing us to go against our faith is in violation of our religious freedom. No it should be a law that protects those that do not agree with us and a law that protects us from us being idiots at times by uprisings not of God.

Our war within ourselves is based on obedience to God. This first law of obedience is to love God and then to love others as we love ourselves. Learning to love beyond our human ability but with the help of Christ our Savior who paid for our sins. To receive and ask the Holy Spirit to guide to enable the believer to strive in love is often hard when the enemy and sin abounds in our world. It is also hard to love when one refuses to see their own sinful lust that remains even when Christ enters our hearts, and who continues to purge our sin nature into submission to Him. Our learning obedience to His law is hardest when our judgmental, self righteous attitude gets in in the way. Just because we do not do certain things, does not mean the world does not. Enforcing others to obey the law we can only obey by God’s Spirit is in violation of choice to follow Christ. It is against God’s law as well.

Receiving people as they are and allowing Christ to change them is not easy, but it is the things we have to do as believers. We can not expect everyone to be like the Church but we can ask them to conform to laws of man that enforce protection of all people rights and freedoms. Agreeing to allow everyone that same choice. And not to violate that other persons right.

Now with that said as a believer our duty is to obey God and to follow his will for our life. To walk in accordance to His will, if we truly are His child. To walk by the Spirit despite the evil that wages in our hearts. Never should one allow evil. Yet we live in a land that can barely conform to even the laws of protection of others. Our land always in the way disagreement just like our soul is to the laws that are in direct conflict with our heart choice to follow Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father enable us to stand in faith, despite our desire to follow the sinful road outside of faith at times. Help us to love others living in the sin road that serves not you but their own desires. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:Romans 8:5-9 KJV
(5) For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
(6) For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
(7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
(8) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
(9) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
