Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

1 Kings 17:1-10 KJV
(1) And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
(2) And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
(3) Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
(4) And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
(5) So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
(6) And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
(7) And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
(8) And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
(9) Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
(10) So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

Until you experience prophecy for yourself you will never be a believer of prophecy. Can one believe and God and not believe in prophecy applying to today’s world? I really think it be hard not to believe in prophecy in the since of knowing of Christ return, or believing in the prophecy of Old and New Testament that been fulfilled. Yet it modern prophecy that hard to believe with all the technology, and wizard contraptions to cause false prophecy of modern man. What does it take prophecy to be true. God speaking to the heart of man and performing the things of the heart that is not humanly possible. Elijah found himself going to a brook for water and to be feed by raven by night. Yet was this enough to stir faith? Was the prophecy of no rain and a drought for three years enough to increase faith? The prophet leave after the time of the great exodus from Egypt. The prophet faith would spur him to not only believe God but go where God directed him for provision. Was the raven bringing food enough? I would like to think so, but then I think of manna from heaven was not enough to keep Israel inline.

This month we talking about God preserving our faith and it is through prophecy that we are often preserved. Yet it not prophecy alone or even provision that causes faith or hope in what God says. It is God’s word that spurs us into action to see if all comes to be. To have a raven daily come with food for Elijah must of seemed like something out of the Exodus story. Yet Elijah does not question God, nor when the water dries up does he complain but goes to the place God had prepared a widow woman to care for his needs. To go in obedience and find what God spoke is the same way the disciples must of felt finding a donkey to carry Jesus on. The men of old believing God’s word and doing it only because God spoke to their hearts.

To know God is speaking to our hearts is to find the impossibility at the end of the road or at the destination so to speak. God provision to Elijah at the brook and the village. Birds by nature do not feed man. Yet this raven provided for Elijah. God provision in wilderness and the next location. One can not worry about where they are going, only trust God to provide. Is God spuring your faith by provision? Has he spurred your faith by providing. Did God spur your faith with prophecy of event in your life? Three years there be no rain do you think Elijah and the king did not count those days? God’s appointed time of deliverance. Through all these things God demonstrated his power but also his power to provide. Can you be like Noah and build and ark if God speaks to your heart?

Dear Heavenly Father preserve our faith Lord thru the promise of your word. Reveal your word to us so we can trust you and obey you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Hebrews 11:7-8 KJV
(7) By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
(8) By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
