Five Alarm Fire
10/13/2016

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Luke 11:5-9 KJV
(5) And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;
(6) For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?
(7) And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
(8) I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.
(9) And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

Many volunteer fire fighters rise at the waking hour to the call of the five alarm fire. No one thinks of those oops in the night, but it seems to happen more readily at night then in the day. Those volunteers that work all day at a regular job only to rise to the work of volunteerism of fire fighting. Without those that would rise in the middle of the night to rescue lives from burning houses, and wrecks there would not be anyone that cared. Many are not paid to rise in the night or are paid only very little to replace the clothing that is ruined in the fire or wreck scene. These men risking their lives to save yours. Good reason that if you can prevent a wreck or fire do so instead of driving a vehicle needing repair, or leaving the curling iron in a bad place or a stove on. Chimney fire can not be prevented always, but keeping that chimney clean will help, and electrical fires can not be prevented unless you know there is a problem.

The fire fighter rises in the night to the sound of a pager going off. In the old days a alarm or bell would blare across one’s town and country miles to tell those that would come help when someone was in need. People would come because they wanted someone to come if it was them, now they leave it to train men and women that will come in the night. Not many will rise to occasion unless it next door, but those who know the hour of emergency is never known.

The neighbor needed only a loaf of bread because someone came from out of town. Do you rise, no you send them to Wal-Mart, or convient store in today’s world. You hang your cell phone up and tell them to call you in the morning. In today’s world. With the convents of our world, the need to ask is already provided. Yet In Jesus day the Wal-Mart’s were closed and no one could go and buy bread at midnight. Yet a friend ask you would rise not asking why this late hour. The provision for a friend if you had, knowing if it was you, that you hope they would you.

God’s timing is always known by God. What if God has a five alarm fire will you arise to help him. Of course God does not need you to arise, He is God. However if he ask you in the night to arise and go, will you? Many people call on God on all hours of day and night. Yet when it God’s turn to ask do you go. If God delivered you in the middle of the night why are not willing to wake to his call? His alarm is sounding, the fire of hell is still burning and people are perishing because of lack of knowledge of who God and Jesus is. Will you arise to minister to those in need, will you allow God to awake you in the night or open a door to minister in the day. We ask God and God provides. Not always how we want but what we need. God knows what best for us. He does not give us a serpent not to show us how to handle it. God answer to the emergency might be what best for the person suffering, and not always what best for the individual in the hallway of hospital waiting and begging God for good news.

God provision for the five alarm might not be always what you think, but it will be a solution and what best for all concern. God provides for our spiritual needs no matter the hour. That is gift that free. We just have to pray for spiritual healing the spiritual answer to our dilemma knowing God will answer. God sent his Son to die for your sins and to rise to victory. Job asked God for someone to intercede on his behalf because his emergency and crisis was all around him. Yet he still bow before God. He woke to nightmare around him of the loss of everything and yet his nagging wife was still there. He had friends that came with little comfort or solution to his aching spiritual need. Job had the wrong fire department that could offer no solution to his trouble. Job all he needed was to hear from God His maker in order to know he did not deserve what he asked. He was humbled by the very answer of God.

God is there in the night, in our trouble, not always responding immediately it seems, but He is there. He knows the hour of emergency and the hour of plenty of time to praise the Lord. When God calls you to help are you going to step up to the plate. God does, yet do we recognize God’s hand.

Dear Heavenly Father help those men in women that serve you and those that server our towns and country sides in hours when no one else will. Rise up your people to your call Lord and let them know that call is from you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

2 Peter 3:9-10 KJV
(9) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
(10) But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
