The Preserving Of Faith through Revelation And Vision
10/07/2016

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

2 Corinthians 12:1-12 KJV
(1) It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
(2) I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
(3) And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)
(4) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
(5) Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.
(6) For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me.
(7) And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
(8) For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
(9) And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
(10) Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
(11) I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing.
(12) Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.

Through out Paul letters to the churches including Acts in this there is little evidence of His testimony on Damascus road. It not that he did not share his story perhaps but it was better for his silence because of his persecution of the christians. In some circles that would of gotten him stoned, beaten, killed or perhaps worse. Yet it would not of been good for him, in a since this was perhaps one of the things God used to keep Paul from exalting himself. In fact Paul had to change his name from Saul to Paul because his known name as Saul caused people to want to kill him because of his persecution of Christians.

One can only thank God for his ways of preserving us. Without sharing certain parts of our personal relationship with God, it does allow one not to have one’s own faith to be picked apart. It hiding of the things that keep us intact in our faith. There were certain things Jesus only shared with his disciples in ministry. There certain things only another believer will understand verses the world.

Paul starts with talking about a vision of a man taken up into heaven. I often thought it perhaps was John the disciple that wrote Revelations. Revelation from God is a communication between God and you. It is the revelation of what God speaks to you. Abraham vision was first and earthly vision. Yet God enabled him to have faith that would cause him to journey to the promise land. Moses vision of a burning bush was not enough to move him to help his family the Hebrew people. It took a rod to become a snake and his hand to become leprosy for him to know the power of God was with him. Moses communication with God is only expressed in Exodus. His call never mentioned beyond that time frame. Jonah had to be swallowed by a fish, but it still took a gore for Jonah to understand God’s power to destroy with a fervent heat of judgment on a village he was judging called Nineveh after it repented. God’s revelation to even Isaiah was only recorded by what God told these men to write down and to tell. Revelation that spurs on each believer of faith, the revelation of what was told to a minister or prophet only enhance another faith if they believe by conviction of the Holy Spirit that the story of the vision and/or revelations are true. That is why one should ask of God to reveal the truth of a situations to you, whether it be true or not. Not wrong to ask God about what man says. However often the Spirit speaks to the heart to say if these things are true.

One must be careful not to be caught up in a sales presentation or the kindness of stranger, but to trust in God. Trust in him to keep you protected. Trust him to keep you knock down enough to protect your faith. Abraham was a wealth man and yet he was a man of faith. Paul does not necessarily appear wealthy, but he had many Christian friends in churches that supported him in ministry. They knew the value of spreading the Gospel.

God gave Paul infirmity that keep Paul from exalting himself. No doubt it was God’s grace, because unless a believer is in a place where they have to trust in God it would be able to become a star and exalt one’s own being like the devil did with his beauty. God is able to keep our feet from slipping. God grace is sufficient for all we face, our reliance and trust is only half the battle.

Dear Heavenly Father may you give us strength to trust you and to hold on to you even when you humble us so our own testimony does not bring stardom to ourselves. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

Revelation 1:1-3 KJV
(1) The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
(2) Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
(3) Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
