Need To Make The Connection

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Romans 10:1-21 KJV
(1) Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
(2) For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
(3) For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
(4) For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
(5) For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.
(6) But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
(7) Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
(8) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
(9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
(10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
(11) For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
(12) For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
(13) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
(14) How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
(15) And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
(16) But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
(17) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
(18) But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
(19) But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
(20) But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.
(21) But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

Until a child goes to school or desires to learn, there is no learning beyond desire. A mother sitting at a table writing will only allow a child of four that same desire to learn to use a pen. Children learn by example, yet they will not instantaneously have the skill of an adult. We might like to think one learns something on their own, but in truth most things learned are through observation through the five senses. Give a blind child learning tools designed for them, despite their inability to see he is then able to learn, when he/she gets the ideal that it is form of communication with those they can not see. The story of Helen Keller displays a story of both a blind and deaf child having trouble learning obedience, but communication. As soon as the teacher was able to break through to the child, the learning and desire to learn began. It began for Helen with the signing of the word she verbally remembered as water, before her blindness and deafness.

There is a point I am trying to make until one hears the word of God they may be going through life with no idea of who God is or that even the fact there is a superior being. It is the study of scripture that helps in understanding there is loving God that desires what best for you and me. Yet the interpretation of scripture can be seen from different points of view. How can heathen learn about God without a preacher? How can those not knowing who God is learn with out a teacher? Abraham heard from God but there no indication he did not have faith before God said go to the promise land, yet he lived in a land of idolatry. There were certain parts of the temple that the gentile people were not allowed to enter until their family had been part of the temple for ten generations. The purpose was to keep the purity of the faith and laws. Yet the laws were corrupted anyway by man.

What does the effect of hearing scripture have upon hearing it, it is only words until it is taken to the heart and believed. In school there is often subjects one learns that have no value even later in life, until one day one realizes they needed that bit information to help them through. God’s word is much like that. Sometimes one studies things about God’s word that seems to have no application until one day it like a key for learning or one’s life.

The knowledge to obey God can not come without education. How can a group of people obey God if they know not his laws, but believe in Him. At the time of Gideon a priesthood was started in a gentile nation. Yet they knew not all the laws of God. They needed teachers and ministers of faith. John the Baptist at the time of Christ went into the highways and byways to share about the kingdom of God and the need for repentance making ready a people that knew not God but would desire Him. It did not mean John Baptist did not teach Jewish people as well, but he was in the desert land teaching and preaching by the Jordan river. When one teaches or preaches in the open field many groups of people are listening. If you only teach in a temple or church guess what it mainly religious folks, curiosity seekers or religious wanna-abees.

A nation that can no longer say they are religious is a nation that has forgotten God or has not been taught the ways of God. Removal of God from our courthouses, our government and our schools is only proof of a nation without God. When godly people removed from school their influence is removed as well, except for the small way they have impacted society that desire at least some control. Gun violence in our school is only evidence of lack of God in school and a lack of political democracy standing up to opposition of our schools. One voice saying I do not want democracy I want it my way only. Democracy allows disagreement tell change can be made for the better or for the whole if it sounds reasonable to others. Democracy allows for a vote to say we going this direction for a while, but change will come later perhaps with another vote.

The spreading of God’s word come with choice of desiring to hear or not to hear. No one requires you to listen to God’s word, but if you in a placing of learning about God by choice then you are required to pay attention. In some schools I attended, the students heard a verse every day. It was not required to listen, no test was being given. Yet what it did was give students the ability to hear if they wanted too. Yet without the sharing of one verse no one heard a thing. If God’s people share not no one hears. If we share God people in our world around us hear. No connection might be made for the listener, but in time with hearing God’s word will speak to the heart. Teach those God puts in your path. God’s word changes lives.

Dear Heavenly Father send your word forth and use me to spread the Gospel. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

Mark 4:23-25 KJV
(23) If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
(24) And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
(25) For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
