Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Psalms 105:1-45 KJV
(1) O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.
(2) Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.
(3) Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
(4) Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.
(5) Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
(6) O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.
(7) He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth.
(8) He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.
(9) Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;
(10) And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant:
(11) Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:
(12) When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.
(13) When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people;
(14) He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;
(15) Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
(16) Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread.
(17) He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:
(18) Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:
(19) Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.
(20) The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.
(21) He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance:
(22) To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.
(23) Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.
(24) And he increased his people greatly; and made them stronger than their enemies.
(25) He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants.
(26) He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen.
(27) They shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.
(28) He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word.
(29) He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish.
(30) Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings.
(31) He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts.
(32) He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land.
(33) He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and brake the trees of their coasts.
(34) He spake, and the locusts came, and caterpillers, and that without number,
(35) And did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground.
(36) He smote also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength.
(37) He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.
(38) Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them.
(39) He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night.
(40) The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
(41) He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.
(42) For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant.
(43) And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness:
(44) And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people;
(45) That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise ye the LORD.

Why the constant review of God’s Word from beginning to end. There many stories of faith in the world and yet not all classified as living up to Biblical standard because of facts involved and time period. Yet the Bible tells of more then just good old stories of faith but life of the day and time among the dignitaries of the day. I wonder how much information does one need about your leaders to choose them as leader. Do you need to go through their underwear draw just to know if they can make sound judgment in the business world, some think so. Yet others care little about it. The rise and fall of leaders are written throughout scripture including success. It might not seem important but leaders have been subject for centuries. Yet the greatest leader’s story told in scripture was about God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Two leaders of man one being human and other God. God demanding praise as the kings and queens of our land does. They want to be honored among the people and not degraded.

As I look this passage one thing that sticks out to me is all the work of God through the leaders, from the call of Abraham to the story of Joseph fall and rise to the fall of Pharaoh. The history important for hope in both bad times and good times. The importants of reminder of obeying God through all kinds of trials and tribulation in life. The outcome of the faithful and falling of the disobedient to God. Despite the life style God seems to honor those that obey Him. That honor Him and hear his word. God desires for us to obey Him, because He loves us. God’s way is best. We learn much about life through our leaders. The consequences of bad and good leaders. Yet scripture speaks about the victory of those that obey Him even when they seem down on their luck. Joseph is a good example imprisoned beginning by his family until the king had need of him to interpret a godly dream. Despite how his family treated him, Joseph chose to obey God and became victorious because of obedience. Abraham journey of obedience and cost of not trusting God would be two warring women in his life. The journey of Moses and learning to obey God despite his thought to be better judgment. Cause and effect of groups of people when they were in obedience to God and also times when groups of people where not in compliance to faith in God.

Moses striking the rock twice cost him, but the miracle was faith was growing among the people because think about it water flowed from a rock to feed and water so many people and livestock. A people in the wilderness getting reacquainted with their ancestor knowledge of the power of God. The alliance and unity of faith because of the power of God. Glory and honor going to God because when God speaks the people obey in unity. Even the cost of disobedience was learned about in the wilderness. Yet it would be each generation journey from disobedience to faith. We all start in a state of disobedience moving toward obedience.

Some that hear God’s word need not the trial in life to believe and others need to trials to know God’s power is real when one trust in Him. The purpose of the trials is to gain knowledge of the need for obedience and worship of God. Faith comes from hearing the word of God. Faith comes with understanding the reality of God and His power and dominion over the human race. Two powers God and man, but hopefully they work in unity together and not apart.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to grow in our faith giving you honor, knowing the trials of this world is not without hope of deliverance from you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

Romans 10:17-20 KJV
(17) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
(18) But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
(19) But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
(20) But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.
