Interesting thing about being in a hot dry climate the level of thirst is different then in humid desert area. Living in different regions of my state I appreciate the lower humidity in summer months in the mountains, but appreciate the less snow in the Tidewater region of the state. In Tidewater area the summer heat with humidity is almost suffocating for those not use to that climate. It not that it is not adaptable it just different. One can appreciate the different climates and what they represent and remind us in spiritual faith. David as song writer and poet he use the poetic jest of the climate to express what his soul felt when God seem not as present in his life. There was times he need to take time to just talk to God. It was in those hours he felt as though he was going through a desert with God by his side. Yet he was thirsty in his soul for God.

To be thirsty for God is to know God is the only one that can satisfy the soul. To cause the soul to rest in peace. There is time we hunger for the the word of God and need the meat of the word to satisfy as well as the simplicity of God’s word to water us. When God is not speaking to the heart and is silent, one might feel like they are going through a drought. Yet at the same time it maybe a time to get things done, time of repentance and seeking God, or just being silent with God. Yet there time of seeking God not because of the need of repentance, but the need of companionship with God.

A non believer is not going to understand this relationship a person has with God. Or the quenching of God’s presence through worship and praise. If one wakes us in the morning and finds them beside their lover in bed and realize that you might not feel the same as they do, then you realize the individuality of yourself and that other person not always in agreement with the relationship and where it is going. It is like spending to much time with someone and giving them the wrong impression on how you feel toward them. Friendship is friendship, and does not make a person lovers necessarily.

God desires a friendship with each of us. God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son to demonstrate his love for us. That brotherhood of the disciples and even the woman did not make them lovers of Christ, but companions and friends of Christ. Friendship valued because of common interest in serving Christ and God. That loyalty of friendship to help in good times and bad.

Lovers are lovers beneath the sheets but beyond those sheets is there a relationship. If with both parties are going in opposite direction to where there is no connection there probably is not a relationship unless they share some other common interest.

What is your common interest with God? Both enjoy each other company? Enjoy making people happy? Enjoy doing good? Do you enjoy praying for the sick and the down trodden? Do enjoy taking God with you into battle, into work and home. Is God your best friend and do you discuss the things you do each day?

The convince of phones, skype on the computer and so forth is that you can visit with anyone from anywhere. Spend those few moment of a day with someone that other wise you would not be able too. It like take a lunch break and saying I love you. Yet your hunger for that person company is satisfied with a few moments of cell phone talking. God has a open phone line all the time. Even in his silence God listening to you. Sometimes it means it time for you to be quiet too and reflect. Sometimes it is time for you to talk, so when you done you will listen to God. Man has almost devised away to be as close to someone has God except the other person on both ends has to be listening to each other and be in some type of agreement of relationship. God’s relationship with you is always an open door until you die. You can enter that relationship anytime, but wants it started it does not end. It like best friends no matter where you are in life they are still friends.

David while in the desert needs to call on God, needs to talk and listen to his God. God always satisfies David soul with help and aid for the journey but also provides a companionship not shared with his wives. God is consistently there. Unmovable and unshakeable because of faith in God over years of experience. Until you receive Christ in your life you will not understand this relationship beyond carrying a cell phone with you all the time.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for a direct line to you with the need of batteries or a cell tower. Thank you for your friendship that stands the test of time and eternity. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
