Time Of Christ: Christ Taught About Love
11/28/2015

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Luke 10:25-37 KJV
(25) And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
(26) He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
(27) And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
(28) And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
(29) But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
(30) And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
(31) And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
(32) And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
(33) But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
(34) And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
(35) And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
(36) Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
(37) And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

What is our country doing when we accept refuges into our land. Are we being a brother to these people or a devil? My words on the front page are based on the fact there is a problem going on across our land of people shooting without regards of other human life. These people have no regards for other’s rights only their own. As our nation’s capital was attacked by intrude once more, I sure this is not the first president to be attacked and yet it angers me especially it being Thanksgiving. The President only serves four years and then is re election possibilities of four years. President Obama time is almost up in office. Our nation’s capital is to keep order and peace in our nation among so many groups of people that are different from each other living side by side. All religious extremist wanting only their group to survive. Even non religious such as atheist only wanting their culture to survive in a multicultural world. Yet our nation comes together and says we lay our arms down and live at peace with each other, only to take arms up against those extremist who want to war against people who seek peace instead of war.

There are militant Christian around the world that take up arms against different groups of people, but what they do not realize is to do it in the name of God is declaring intolerance to others faith in God. If I say Christianity is the only right religion then must will say I am extremist, but if I say I believe my faith is the only right religion then say you have choice to make at your free will, then it does not sound as radical. Yet the real line is drawn at my actions.

The good Samaritan story is only one story of how religious zealots refused to help a man in need because he appeared unclean because of his wounds. Yet a man came along an dressed those wounds and took him to a place to rest, even paying for the room and care until he could return to check on his will being. The real neighbor being the one that tended to the needs of his neighbor. Yet where is the line drawn.

I once made a bold statement and someone took me literally that their were more poor then rich. Not knowing we need wealthy people too, that are kind and good like the good Samaritan. I began to think when I seen something happen how far words really travel. It anger me, because even with protecting of others it made things difficult for many. Yet what it means is I did not join them in their fight. Yet I watched on the side lines. Not sure what to make of it.

I rather teach someone peace and tolerance long before I teach war, but with faith there is war. Teaching of warring against devils. The Samaritan a man of faith knew how to fight devils by doing the very opposite of what they said through action of love. Jews were taught to shun those in opposition to their life style even to help innocent person. It taught this way to protect there people. Certain culture are much like the Jewish people shunning others and not giving a hand extend in love. Extremist of any religious order will in fact turn away from another faith, or group of people. Jesus never taught this. God did not teach hate in the Old Testament, but protection from a group of people that would destroy their faith and people because of barbaric culture.

My concern in our world has to do with extremist of other cultures that differ from our own. Where is the line drawn for we deal with extremist in our own faith. Some not understand the love Christ taught or the mercy on others. Yet the Helen of Troy story comes to mind when I think of extremist coming into our nation to battle against innocent Americans in sleeper cell fashion. The understanding of people different from us is a real threat, to show love and mercy to these people is not a threat but a means of compassion that they never known perhaps. Love undivided culture. Anti abuse undivided culture. Being a good Samaritan helps in the fight against culture. Rehab the harlot found peace in the storm and destruction of her village only because she gave people of God protection. Yet her life style meant death, yet Israel spared her. Spared her not because of her culture but because of love and protection of people that were not her people.

Is the lesson on how to be a good neighbor enough to explain the need to care is important or is it only to be looked at from the priest side of the road. To ignore the need and walk on by. If God had not reached down through His Only begotten Son how many of us would be saved. How many of us would understood about God’s forgiveness and ability to be forgiven? Can Americans show that much love and forgiveness after 911. Only God knows the answer to that. Don’t ever take someone else words to wage your own fight. Don’t use God to wage your war, Allow God to fight your battles his way through obedience to His word. Sometimes arms are called for and sometimes it is kindness to a stranger. We all are created by God but not all are in tuned to God’s ways. Some are strangers to God’s love and without it being demonstrated by believers the love of God is lost to others. People we need show Christ compassion of Father forgive them for they know not what they do.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to show and demonstrate the compassion you taught us through sending your Son to teach us compassion. Send us forth to do your will and love others. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
