Psalms 62:1-12 KJV
(1) To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David. Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.
(2) He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.
(3) How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.
(4) They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.
(5) My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
(6) He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
(7) In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
(8) Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.
(9) Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.
(10) Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.
(11) God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.
(12) Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

Jeduthun was a musician that played music in the court of the house of the ark. He would see the ark brought into Jerusalem by King David. Brought to where it would reside during his day as well as his son. The temple or house of the Lord would be built until Solomon’s reign and the ark would be placed inside the house David dedicated to God until the official temple could be built. I can not help but think in King’s David day that David did carry his own harp to the tabernacle and sit among the musicians from time to time, singing unto the Lord. I can not help but think of David love for music caused him to commission people to sing not always by their own accord but by election of ability and in service of the king not just the Lord. King David a godly king but not a perfect king set himself as a servant of God. David being a type of godly Messiah but not God. A leader not of perfection but of humility. God had corrected David but also blessed David by the bring of the ark to Jerusalem. David would not be allowed to build the temple in Jerusalem, but he did place the ark in a house of its own. The musicians would minister in the house of the Lord along with the Levites.

There is a time of wealth and a time of poverty. Not always will wealth or poverty remain with you. However whatever comes and goes from your hand you must consider what it truly means to worship God in all circumstances. God is either your Rock or not your rock. One focus is either on God or the works of your own hands. If I went by the works of my own hands everyday I find my cooking is lacking here of late and yet ever since I was married I cooked for my husband until about fifteen years ago, I started typing. Then I found less time to cook and my husband began to do more cooking then me. I am not a bad cook, but of late it seems everything I attempt fails or does not have that polished dinner look from a magazine front page. Yet one time everything I made pretty much came out perfect, an only a few times did the toast ever get burnt. David at one time had the time to sit and play for the Lord, he was king and could not spend all his days where his heart was. Perhaps David’s heart was in the open field of his childhood where he played and sang to the Lord all the time. Carrying a harp with him in the field where he attended sheep for his father. He was a trained musician when he played for Saul. Yet he was at a place of having no time to sit where he long too as king, to sit in the presence of the Lord continually.

David found himself having to be a king among men and struggled event o keep focus on God has his wealth increased with his fighting ability to stand up for Israel when they refused to stand up for themselves. David’s ability to defend would bring him wealth, but it was not his wealth he desired but to sing before the Lord. I desire to cook for my husband and make those meals I seem to forgotten how or maybe it the stove not being the same. Yeah lost 2 stoves since that time. It was not because my husband could not cook. As we grow and live in our world we choose those things that make us happy. Whether it be cooking, or caring for someone into old age, hopefully one’s heart is no longer on perfection of the hands but on perfecting the love they have for God and others. See it matters not who is cooking for me and my husband but that time we enjoy with each other is most precious. Though the hours of those days seem like to many at times, it comes to understanding of the compassion we have for each other. It is the compassion that will keep us together for many years. Yet we choose who we show compassion too.

God reaches out to us in compassion and grace through his Son and we sit in the wonderment of his grace and mercy to forgive us of all our sin. God judges man’s works, but if we saved that judgment is only in form of correction not a death sentence. One has to love between the good times, the bad times and not so perfect times. King David was not perfect in all his duties as king, but it did not stop God from loving him even through correction, victory and final death. The things most important about relationships is not perfection but the imperfection that allows mercy in all situations.

David found rest knowing the ark was in Jerusalem near him. He knew God was with him from early childhood, but it was the reminder of God’s presence by visibility that was important. The ark being a reminder of God. A reminder of that relationship with God. Something no one could steal from someone of faith. Emblems of faith being much more powerful by its reminder then no reminder. Our emblems of faith not objects of worship but acknowledgement of the reminder of the unseen God.

The music much like the emblems a reminder to rejoice to praise the Lord when entering the house of the Lord. Not meant to be objects of worship but only reminders of faith. Reminders that hold a person in check to the words of the songs that mean something personal between them and God. Words that never touch the soul of man never draws a man toward God. My cooking is not what snagged my husband, it might have been what kept him, but it was never what compelled him to marry me. With that thought relations with God and man has to grow beyond the harps in the field, to the battle field and then into the palace for David, yet he still treasured the first romance with God. That time alone with God. A marriage never can work if you do not enjoy each others company. If what attracted you to God is not the same today, then you should ask why? Because those simple things of first faith should be the things that snag you into that relationship even today. David singing in the house of God with the other musicians only a reminder of those days. Wealth did not take precedence. Nothing changed in who God was in his relationship. For God was David Rock and Fortress in his life. The one he trusted and waited for a response as well as help in trouble. One He knew no matter what he could count on.

Dear Heavenly Father you are the rock in our relationship with you. Our lives change Lord and yet we find new ways to grow in you through worship and praise and quiet devotion that continues on as we journey through life’s ups and downs. Whether richer or poorer you are the solid rock in my life. I thank you and praise you this hour. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
