Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

John 14:26-29 KJV
(26) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
(27) Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
(28) Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
(29) And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

Our country though war has not been in our land the same way it been in other countries, we still battle against the idea of peace and safety. Rumors of wars are everywhere in the world. Yet the truth of the matter few know of all that taken place in our world. Yet our Bible says Jesus gives us peace and the Holy Spirit brings us peace. Yet the world knows no peace. God brings peace to hearts in time of trouble and time of peace. The world might seem cold and warm at times, but never is the peace that God can bring. One Thanksgiving or Christmas without soldiers abroad would be a miracle. Yet what would it say about us when our troops do more then battle but also restore hope to a people.

Today is Veterans day and as I think of victory at Normandy that told the end of World War II. I have to think what did it mean on that day in history. What did seeing Hussein fall or even Ben Ladin mean to Americans. What did it mean to Iraq and the Middle East. It is interesting pictures they show of men of stature of always being in peaceful mode and yet their words bring little peace. It is the words and hate and anger and bitterness that causes others to hate. One rumor can cause many to be hurt and maimed by lies of the devil. Whether something is spoken in truth it can cause harm as well that why there is suppose to be a court system of justice. Yet a kangaroo court sees only its own justice.

Our country if it seen a day of peace it was only for a moment in time, because war would only break out again if nothing more but a show down with a gun fight. We all dream of peace and safety. We all hope for peace. Yet the only peace on earth is peace with God and our fellowman. Peace with family, friends and God seems like a tall order in some families and in others it is a way of forgiveness, love and mercy to each other that comes only through faith in Christ Jesus.

In all truth to know we are forgiven by God through faith and obedience, we do not have to worry about the hand of God destroying us. Yet if we are at war with God we know we can never win. And so it better to have faith and obey God’s Spirit, instead of warring against ourselves and causing our own destruction. Let war be war but let us have peace with ourselves at the least. May this Veterans Day may you find peace through believing Christ died on the cross for your sins. Never forget the war overseas or in our land. Remember why we fight and take a stand against those that will oppress people and abuse them. God is not oppressor, He is a liberator through His Son and His Spirit. His job is to protect and instruct us.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your protection despite the world around us. Let us not forget the day of peace from war in hopes of one day seeing the world come to peace through your Son Jesus Christ, fighting against evils of this world. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
