Deuteronomy 34:1-8 KJV
(1) And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan,
(2) And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea,
(3) And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar.
(4) And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.
(5) So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.
(6) And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.
(7) And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.
(8) And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.

I will always wonder why God did not just forgive Moses, after all Moses knew of all the sacrifices for forgiveness of sin. He knew all the burnt offerings and all the laws of God that were given after He broke God directions by hitting the stone in the desert twice. Had Moses thought the power come from his own hand. Did his attitude need such an adjustment. After all he would see the judgment of God of men being swallowed up by the earth, and Moses himself would execute judgment on the people, especially when they worshipped the golden calf. Moses came off the mountain and seen the golden calf and called out a war cry to all those that believed in God still to kill those that worshipped the golden calf. Moses judgment was not reversible. If he execute judgment that lead to death it could not be undone. Yet Moses had ask God not to kill Israel over the same crime of the golden calf. Had Moses become God‘s defender. Had Moses become the law of God without adhering to his own request to God. In other words where was Moses mercy when he got down the mountain. Had God‘s judgment been placed in his life so he know the reality of God‘s final word and His authority. Yet Moses would be allowed to see the promise land. . It be like looking over into heaven and not being able to enter in because of sin. Yet we all stand before the throne of God for sentencing of hell or redemption. Moses would be buried in the land of sorcery.

If Moses burial place spoke who servant he was we all find ourselves outside Israel like Elisha with ministry would be in question. The fact his some believe in purgatory, and some would perhaps justify Moses burial as a sign of purgatory a place where saints with sin could pay for their sin before going to heaven. Some might say Moses went to hell as far has his emotions after seeing the promise land. I can not imagine Moses not weeping at the sight of a beautiful land and not being able to go in. Finding himself unworthy of the promise. Perhaps he needed reminding spiritually of his own unworthiness that lead to repentance. Yet God’s judgment stood and Moses landed up being buried in Bethpeor, mountain in Moabite land. Where later the law of God would eventually be established at the time of Gideon. Yet it was planted there by God in the form Moses long before Gideon came to be.

What God does He will redo. His markers very clear. Yet what we can rest assure is God’s people called by His name if they humble themselves before God and seek forgiveness will find not only the mercy of God but will enter into the promise land. Moses might not of repented, but he was forgiven because of faith as a child of Abraham through faith. The punishment bore in where he was buried. Much like Peter death was prophesied as being that fact he be lead to a place where he would not want to go, It would be the cost of perhaps the 3 denials. Yet scripture does not declare it. When God promises you something hold too it, even when health fails, and life is upside down. One can rest assure in God’s promises. Moses was old and he perhaps the promise was of hope to him, because he no longer had to deal with those whinny Israelites. Yet in truth he seen the devil in himself before the people. Maybe it was to teach Israel that obedience to God was more important then what you desired to do.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your promises that illustrate a point to myself as well as others. Your purpose perhaps is to teach the need of repentance and obedience. The need for a Savior because not one of us is perfect. I thank you Lord for these reminders of faith. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
