Time Of Christ: No Turning Back

Daily Devotions:by Christina Farris

Luke 16:19-31 KJV
(19) There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
(20) And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
(21) And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
(22) And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
(23) And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
(24) And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
(25) But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
(26) And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
(27) Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
(28) For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
(29) Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
(30) And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
(31) And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

As we lay to rest one of the deacons and elders of the church I attend, I think of his leadership and caring for those in the church. The type of caring you want from your leaders in your church. Devoted to caring for those in need as well as the elderly. He was a friend to all and friend to those he meet. He worked hard outside the church and retired from the coal fields a few years back. He was not afraid to share his faith in Jesus.

Today there is no turning back for Bo, who know doubt has walked through those pearly gates to rest in His Heavenly Fatherís arms. How many of us desire to rest in our Heavenly Fatherís arms upon leaving this world. How many long to hold our Savior face and know that every word of God we depend on in this life is true. There is no turning back when you cross over to heaven. Many have claimed visions of heaven and hell both. And those who seen heaven did not want to leave and those who seen hell could not wait to get away.

Jesus told a story of a beggar needing bread and medicine for his sores. Yet a rich man past by each day never caring about this manís well being. Not even asking how are you today. Though there was no medicine the dogs cared for the man and licked his sores, tending to the cleaning needs of the wounds. Though the dogs were allowed the crumbs from the rich manís table, Lazarus went without. One day Lazarus died and went to heaven and the rich man died to and went to hell a place of torment and heat that could not be quenched. Abraham looked over into hell and talked to the rich man whoís money was no longer any good. He told that rich man there was no turning back, there was no escape he was stuck in hell. Even hell will rise on judgment day. It is the only reprieve the sinner will have before the eternal lake of fire. There is no redemption once eternity has come to you. No turning back, no way to take away the parched lips needing water, or to quench the thirst of those in torment. There is no turning back to save your loved ones and tell them there is a real hell. Once in hell you are stuck for eternity. A long time without God and mercy and grace. Can you show a little mercy and grace to those around you in this life time, or only judgment and contempt.

One more point this man believe not the preachers of old that come to him. He believed not Moses or Abraham. He believed not the preacher of his day, or cared about the things of God. Instead he cared what his money could do for him. He cared not to teach his sons and family about the ways of God while on earth. That is what some people do, and when they fail to teach compassion the world becomes a more evil place. Everyone gets down on their luck sometime, and everyone needs compassion from time to time. Godís way is compassion and not greed. Godís way is mercy and not torment. Yet God repays the rich man for eternity for his lack of mercy in this life. That is only fair judgment, for not listening to the voice of God.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to show love and compassion to the people of this world, to follow your instructions. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

To Boís family, Kenny and my heart grieves with you over the lost of a fine leader and father. Who loved life and loves to laugh. May God grant you peace knowing one day you see Bo again.
