Create In Me A Clean Heart

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Matthew 15:1-21 KJV
(1) Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,
(2) Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
(3) But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
(4) For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
(5) But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
(6) And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
(7) Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
(8) This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
(9) But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
(10) And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
(11) Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
(12) Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
(13) But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
(14) Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
(15) Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.
(16) And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
(17) Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
(18) But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
(19) For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
(20) These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
(21) Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.

I have to wonder if the fishermen’s hands that were Jesus disciples were the one’s the Pharisees had trouble with concerning unclean hands. Anyone ever fished and had a picnic lunch in the rough outdoors knows that worm guts are part of the problem where they stick to one’s hands after baiting hook. Disgusting right. Well most fishermen would at least wash there hands in the water they fishing in but it still lacking soap for scrubbing most the time. No one thinks of carrying those little wipes with cleanser on them when in a boat. A boat is lucky if it has a first aid kit with alcohol or peroxide in the box. However the truth be told a simple wiping on the pants leg or on the grass will take care of them hands in a pinch for a temporal cleaning. Yet I doubt it pass inspection inside a temple or a church. Anyone that been fishing knows exactly what I am talking about and those that don’t don’t worry it no worse then driving down the road with a cup of coffee in the cup holder and biscuit oozing what ever filling you are eating with a little oil or gas on one’s hands because one had no convent place to wash one’s hands. If you never done it maybe you should. However do not digest oil or gas from hands. And no licking the fingers after worm guts either.

Cleanliness outwardly is only skin deep, filth is heart deep, it something that has to be gotten rid of. It can not remain within. Sin must be destroyed and the heart change must take place. Do not die because you transgressed the law of God only let the sin die that cause the transgression, bring one to one’s knees of repentance and get rid of the sin. One can not sin, but one can change one’s future response to life. Nothing wrong with giving a gift to make up to family, a friend or someone perhaps you do not know. It called making things right. Sometimes you can not afford to make anything right that wrong and perhaps do not even know how things got twisted. Sin has a way of destroying a person and relationships with others.

Jesus knew the enter heart the Pharisees. They broke the law by their sin, but their hands were clean. The disciples hands were dirty but their inward heart was clean. A clog artery needs cleaning so the blood flows through. Yet an artery of the spirit most be purged by the Spirit and cleansed by the word of God. One can remain unclean. If they want to live for Jesus. Yet the Pharisee looked outwardly and could not see the heart of the disciples.

I can not see the heart of man, but God can. I can not purge your sin, only God can. I might be able to tell you my thoughts on an issue, but I can not tell you what to believe. Outward show of good behavior does not speak of what in the heart. It not hard to put on a suit and tie, or a fancy dress for us ladies. Nor is it hard to raise our pinkies with a glass of tea, but while doing these things we are dreading each sip, then it only outward show. Pharisees sin was not seen by outward display it was at the heart level, called greed, hypocrisy, lying, cheating and stealing. The Pharisees were corrupt. It had happened before in scripture. Time of Samuel Eli sons’ were corrupt. It happened in other places as well, but that the earliest account I remember.

Jesus was not lying about the Pharisees being corrupt. After all they would be having him crucified in year ahead. Yet one does not want to think of Jesus speaking truth causing religious leaders seeking ways they could destroy Jesus. Yet speaking truth only caused Pharisees anger. The stage being set, but not finished. Are you clean inside or only outside? Do you have road dirt on your hands or inward the heart is filthy needing cleansing? If you need cleansing repent and ask Jesus to come into your heart fixing the clogs/sin in your life. As Jesus to instill a clean heart in you. Jesus can forgive you of sin all you have to do is repent and turn away from sin.

Dear Heavenly Father create in me a clean heart inward and outward so that your grace is seen so others to may receive forgiveness of sin. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
