The Life Of Faith Until Unbelief
03/03/2016

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Luke 1:3-20 KJV
(3) It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
(4) That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
(5) There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
(6) And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
(7) And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.
(8) And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest's office before God in the order of his course,
(9) According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
(10) And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.
(11) And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
(12) And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
(13) But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
(14) And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
(15) For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
(16) And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
(17) And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
(18) And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
(19) And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
(20) And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.

Unbelief and faith is are like a roller coaster in life. No matter how much one is a true believer of faith, doubt occur. It is those doubts that causes consequences in one’s life that are often Biblical. Peter new Jesus was the Christ, and yet he was told by Jesus himself he would deny him three times. Zacharias a man of faith known to live the life of obedience to God. One who knew God personally but yet when God sends an angel he is filled with doubt his wife will ever conceive. It is this unbelief that causes him to face the consequence of silence and the inability to speak. He would not be able to speak what the angel told him, until the baby was born and he said his name was John. Nothing stopped him from making love to his wife, but it stopped him from speaking. No doubt in those days ahead he found the comfort of his wife despite his predicament. Unable to speak but his wife became pregnant, had he written the words down of what happened no one knows. Yet it was enough to stir up the crowd that day and they understood he had a vision.

Peter had the Jesus before him tell him he would deny him, and he followed behind Jesus to trial and to courtyard where fire burning to warm himself, only to be question by the maid in attendance of who he was. If he was one of Jesus disciples. The words are clear unbelief anyone could deny Jesus after salvation. Anyone could have unbelief as Zacharias did after salvation. Can one loose their salvation and the answer is not this way, if one is in the protected by God. The banner of love that surrounded Zacharias and Peter was for a purpose. If that purpose is explain our unbelief of the wonderful and terrible things God speaks to us about, it is only until the prophesy comes to pass. How important is it, to believe at that point, will it called being a witness to the event that can not be denied.

I was looking for perfect couples all last month and my mind was racked but here one of them perfect couples who had faith but their life was not perfect. Elizabeth had suffered much because she was childless. The women ridiculing her and Zacharias probably was ridiculed as well. Yet they were blameless in the eyes of their friends as far as faith and righteousness goes. Peter though full faith claiming who Jesus was, gave him doubt to his words. He was the second sommand to the disciples and yet he found himself saying no I never will deny you Lord. It is those words of unbelief after being told by God it would happen that cause the world to ask if these people can believe how can I.

It is the unbelief that either will bring you to your knees when it comes to pass, or harden your heart depending on whether one’s response is like Judas, or like Peter and Zacharias. See Judas was told he would betray him, and left out the door to do just that at the last supper. He would hang himself without repentance because he sought repentance at the temple instead of God.

Despite your error in life God is able to forgive if one seeks him. That ability came through Christ Jesus through both the Old and The New Testament. Jesus being the word of God in the flesh, yet the word God in the Old. Zacharias was on the side of the Messiah had not yet come in the flesh. Yet God’s word was true, and without mercy of God there would be no forgiveness. Yet Zacharias upon seeing began to rejoice of his Son’s birth and coming birth of the Savior. Perhaps Zacharias could not speak of the forerunner until seeing his birth, but he could speak of the Messiah after knowing his son came as promised. God building on hope for the greater hope. Peter receiving the grace of God upon seeing Jesus once more was enough to enable him to feed the sheep.

Unbelief is not destructive unless it leads to death or unrepentance. In Lot’s wife’s case unbelief cost her for she turned into a pillar of salt when she looked back. She had no time for repentance. Pharaoh of Egypt has plenty of time to repent, and upon the crossing of the Red Sea no repentance would have time to be. God’s grace running out when the wall of water pour over Pharaoh’s chariot.

Time of unbelief is coming to end, for those that refuse God’s Word. It comes with the price of prophesy of either a warning or to strength faith for the task ahead. What did Lot gain by having his wife turn into a pillar of salt, it simple really the wrath of God at his door, and yet it caused him to go further away from Sodom and Gomorrah then he desired, but God had instructed. What does it take for the world to turn to God and for individual to turn to God. The question is not of whether one has enough faith, but whether or not one has the ability to move forward with a repented heart towards God after the doubting. Every disciples that walk with Jesus ran away in the garden. Yet some where found at the foot of the cross. Where are you, when it comes to doubt. Are you at the foot of Jesus, or still running in the wrong direction?

Dear Heavenly Father help our unbelief, so our faith we have strengthen with knowledge and understanding of your mercy and grace. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
