Current Daily Devotion can be found by hitting dailies and pushing Daily Devotion, 3/25/2015 Daily Devotions:by turtle30c John 11:1-27 KJV During the year of popularity there was two raisings of the dead, the time of Jairus’ daughter and the widow’s son. Yet this begins the month prior to the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ the resurrection to come of Lazarus. Today I am only looking at the preparation for the resurrection of Lazarus. When we think of stories told and later recorded for historical accounts, one might ask why is this one only recorded by John. All I can think is perhaps in the wisdom of God wanted to show us that the possibility of resurrection was known among his followers. Luke does the same in his book in chapter 7 and 8. There were other resurrections in the Old Testament probably most notes is the Shunammite’s son and the man buried with the prophet that jump out of the grave because of the anointing of the Holy Spirit that was upon the prophet even though dead. The idea of the resurrection is not new. In fact the idea that the lamb of God would go to the slaughter is not a false prediction, but it spoke of not only the slaughter of the lambs as sacrifice for sin, , but also crucifixion of the Messiah to come. The killing of the innocent for sin. Some groups still practice crucifixion not understanding only one Lamb was needed for forgiveness. Not understanding that those killing their children were doing so to false gods. There are missionary stories of people slaughter by tribal people some to their gods and other just for slaughter sake. Yet Lazareth death road started with a simple illness. That lead to death. The illness that causes death for every mankind is sin. Yet victory comes through Christ victory over death. A hope beyond the grave. The punish for sin is death. Lazareth was sick and it caused his death. In fact Jesus did nothing though He knew Lazareth was sick. One might ask why did Lazareth suffer in sickness to death. What purpose does the retelling of this event have. Perhaps if nothing more but to show how God can prepare the heart of man. I witnessed the prophesy of death once. It felt like murder, more then it felt like prophesy. If one studies all the components of the death Christ it seems was murder more then it was prophesy, because of preparation of sending Jesus to the cross. Yet the preparation for the death of Lazareth was nothing more but preparation of the events to come. The word came that Lazareth was sick. Jesus had the power to heal, but did not. He told the disciples Lazareth would die and he waited four days before going to Martha and Mary. It was a testimony to the disciples of prophetic death and the hope of resurrection. Yet Lazareth was dead four days. Four days there was no coming back in the eyes of many. After all the decaying process had definitely begun. Yet Jesus said Lazareth would rise again, and of course many understood about the resurrection to come. No one would believe the impossible happening four days later. Lazareth was dead, nothing in human ability could bring him back, but Jesus if He had come when called for could of healed him. Jesus power to heal and deliver is not always, because it is time for God’s people to go home to be with him. Yet it was not Lazareth time to remain gone from this world, but time for him to rise again. The resurrection of Lazareth no doubt gave John’s heart testimony of the hope of heaven and eternal life. That the prophesy of Peter at the end of the book was testimony of what was to come to the church world as the reality of prophesy. That if it happened to you, you would know in your heart the reality of the resurrection. Yet it was for the disciples to help them understand He would rise again when they crucified Him. God prepares our heart for hope and life. Dear Heavenly Father strengthen our faith so we might believe not only in the resurrection after being dead for more then four days, but we might believe in eternal life beyond the grave.
