John 8:1-12 KJV
(1) Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
(2) And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
(3) And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
(4) They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
(5) Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
(6) This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
(7) So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
(8) And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
(9) And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
(10) When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
(11) She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
(12) Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

How easy it is to judge another person action by what we will and will not do. I might say I will one day sky dive only to say I would also have a heart attack on the way down because of my fear of heights. However it would be the one solution of either resolving my fear of heights or causing my fear of heights to kill me. Either way the issue would be resolved. Judgment is often that way, it is a resolving of a problem or issue that is in society. The Pharisees brought a harlot before Jesus. Did Jesus: A. write on the ground the names of the Pharisees lovers, B. the past sins of the Pharisees or C. I do not know. The point is the Pharisees wanted to humiliate this sinner. Chastise this woman publicly before the crowd and Jesus. They cared not for this woman in sin, they only cared about destroying her life, or cause more men to want to sleep with her. It could work many different ways for this woman. One thing it would not do is resolve the point they did not bring the man with her that was sleeping with her. Cops arrest hookers all the time. They set up a sting operations to catch them in the act of whoredom. Yet seldom do the catch the guy that is pimping the woman out. And the problem only continues, for the pimp with all the money can pay the fine and get his woman out if he desires. The crime does not decrease but only causes money to switch hands from the hooker to the cops. The Pharisees were a type of religious cop. Religious law verses Roman law. Religious groups had the ability to punish to an extent depending on who own the territory. We see in the media today of how some cops are being caught in illegal abuse of their authority. Which is needed for protection of the people. People should never have to fear a cop. Yet when cops begins to look at themselves as a God they got bigger issues.

This woman caught in adultery was breaking religious law. Yet whatever was written on the ground broke the religious law of adultery. Was thou shalt not commit adultery a religious law or legal law. For Rome it was not issue and not punishable by their laws. It was religious issue and one ordained by God. It is like the issue today of gay rights. Is it a moral law, or a religious law to be gay. Some could say the adulteress is a woman that attacks the family unity and others might say it solves a problem. Depends on who you ask. Yet this woman was dragged out for a public spectacle. To be humiliated before the crowd.

The public humiliate of a problem is just that, humiliation because of disagreement of an issue. Yet if the issue is something that is effecting more then one person should it be brought to the public eye. Some will say yes, but what if it is issue of abuse or moral law. This woman caught in act of moral law, found herself no longer on trial because the Pharisees were put on trial. The Pharisees became the spectacle for their actions.

The reality show called cops puts the cops on display for their actions. Hopefully they only film cops doing their jobs. Hopefully it teaches people something about law enforcement. Things legal and illegal in most states. Yet if the law becomes the devil then the law should be prosecuted at the harlot. What if the woman assaulted was not inclines but proposition at the wrong moment in time and it was just one of those things. She going to jail and uncover cop who has entrapped an innocent woman goes free.

The point is a cop can not do his job if he is caught with his own pants down accusing the woman of something he was guilty of doing. Whatever Jesus wrote was enough to cause the Pharisees to walk away. It was enough to set the woman free. The woman accused of being something she was, but not something to which Jesus was going to condemn her for.

Throughout scripture it the law of adultery is declared. It is a law written with God’s own hand on the tablet of stone. Yet it is God’s place to judge by His own laws. Yet Jesus condemns not the woman caught in adultery. In Revelations the whore is said not to enter the kingdom of heaven but cast into the fiery pit called eternal lake of fire with her angels. How could Jesus not condemn the woman caught in sin. From Old to New Testament whoredom is consider sin. Did Jesus change the law of God or only enforce that the issue was more larger then just this one woman. Yet Jesus freed this woman. Was her heart begging for mercy that day. Where were her accusers that walked away. What law had they broke.

To solve the issue of who then can be saved if by God’s law this woman is condemned and by Jesus law of love this woman is not condemned. This woman is said to be Mary Magdalene. A woman that was a follower of Jesus. Was the adultery to God the sin. The adultery of unbelief. The adultery of foreign gods. Think for a moment those with many wives was committing adultery by God’s law. No the law was not understood, for the law says not to covet another man’s wife. David was justified by faith as Abraham was. He was free because of faith in God yet sin atonement had to be paid.

The price of a hooker is being caught and paying a fine or jail time, with an extended vacation, hoping that the woman might be freed from her bonds of sin. The issue is the crime against humanity of breaking of God’s law that protects all people. Yet the law of faith exempts us all from God’s law of condemnation. Then that makes many people free that would not be free from sin. Yet if one follows after God then one is freed from a life of sin. Even Abraham sent his wives away before he died. Had God convicted him of his sin in his later life or something else. All we know is faith is important to God. Yet God expects obedience and yet at the same times says we all sin. What a confusing mess to many, who are searching, because simply if it only faith then what is it going to take for one to believe in both God, His mercy and salvation?

Dear Heavenly Father your mercy is great concerning sin, yet what is sin but a reflection of our humanity. Laws provided to teach us our imperfection and to be better, not only to ourselves but others. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
