Psalms 27:1-11 KJV
(1) A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
(2) When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
(3) Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
(4) One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
(5) For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
(6) And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
(7) Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
(8) When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
(9) Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
(10) When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
(11) Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.

If you ever been to a Christian event such as a retreat center of any size you know there is the huge event with the special guest speaker, and singing. Yet during the day there is time of fellowship and Bible study in smaller groups. Jesus ability to draw a crowd was based not only on his miracles but those around him that went into the city and told about Jesus. The word alone of who Jesus was, was necessary for the growth of the Gospel. One might think a carnival was in town or snake oil sales man, gathering the crowd for medicine, except the difference with Jesus ministry was He was the real Savior, He was the genuine article in the flesh. He had the power to heal and deliver.

One drawing a crowd need people out in the streets and sharing. Evangelist and ministers know the need to drum up business for the church, but unless they know how to talk to people they will never be able to share Christ effectively. It takes training to share Christ, and in truth only in certain situation. The best way to share Jesus is be yourself and allow God’s Spirit to direct you. The stories of Jesus healing power, and who he was would have been shared from village to village by the disciples. Perhaps in areas of people they knew and did not know. Some areas welcoming with open arms and others that were skeptics. Those who came to hear Jesus speak and those that came for a miracle.

Jesus did find himself alone on more then one occasion while his disciples went into the city for food. No doubt those conversations began in the market place of who Jesus was. The marketplace, a place to swapping news and information. Story tellers sat at the city gate telling things they heard, passing information around.

There is a point to this discourse, and the simple fact is the need to share about Jesus is still the same as it was way back when. Sharing Jesus is a type of baptism. Though baptism is usually thought of as being water baptizing today, the need to know and receive by faith the truth of Jesus is also a baptism through education. For Christian families it begins early in life, for those that practice their faith. For those on the city streets just invited to church or to a home study it takes time. You can not learn all there is about Jesus in a day or week. You might be able to consume the four Gospels in a short amount of time, but not the living Jesus that continues on with you once you believe in him, that continues in your daily life. Growth and faith continues on even after the understanding who Jesus is.

Repentance only can come with the understanding of the need for salvation. Yet without people sharing then there is no activity beyond the pew of a church. Disciples of Jesus baptized both with water and with the word of who Jesus was. This would draw a crowd around Jesus. Jesus also ministered and shared the truth of who He was. He did so with the woman at the well. The conversation began why are you talking to me, to why ask me for water, to the fact He could give her living water. She understanding who she spoke to went immediately into the village and told her village about Jesus. Her village came to see this stranger at the well.

Jesus needed no crowd to share who He was but it did make his work a lot lighter. Yet He only needed to talk to get a fire growing in the heart of all that sought the Messiah coming. Yet His ability came with who He was and is. Our ability to draw a crowd has nothing to do with who we are but who Christ is. The only thing people need to hear is the truth. The side events are those things that come simply by the gathering. These conference centers studies are often geared toward the big event at the end of each day. They are preparations to receiving the truth.

The Holy Spirit still speaks to the heart of man preparing the heart before the minister even approaches. Some are only seed planters, and other help get the people to the meeting. Some help in the harvest. What is your role in the big picture. What is your job in bringing people to Jesus? Find your gift and realize there time when you might be doing different work as well. Just be willing to obey God’s Spirit.

Dear Heavenly Father you have the gift of drawing us to you and your Son by your Spirit. A gift only you can do, but you enable each believer to testify of the works you do, those willing to be a vessel for you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
