Psalms 27:1-11 KJV
(1) A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
(2) When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
(3) Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
(4) One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
(5) For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
(6) And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
(7) Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
(8) When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
(9) Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
(10) When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
(11) Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.

Passion Sunday, a Sunday to reflect on Christ’s passion even our own passion in life. To reflect on victory over our enemies yet to come. Our reflection on the suffering surrounded by the victory. David a man of war knew the suffering of war, yet he knew the protection of God’s hand upon his life. He knew the passion of suffering and pain in the heat of battle, yet he always came through victorious. He knew what was to dwell in the house of the Lord and his passion to dwell in God’s house forever. Yet in reality his victory came without the price of physical death in the heat of battle during his life time. Not sure if this is going to make a lot of since this morning in comparison to Christ suffering, for his victory came with a price of death to resurrection. Yet the similarities of David and Christ is being surround by the enemy in the heat of battle. Yet Christ battle was to be won without protest against his enemies. He bowed down and allowed them to believe they had won, only for them to discover they had lost with His resurrection. The enemy thus having to bow in recognition to Christ or bow forcefully to the power of Christ has the soldiers did in the garden. Bowing to the will of God as an enemies against God, performing their duty has the enemy, according to God’s plan. God’s plan to allow the suffering at the enemies hand, only to show they might destroy for a moment, but they can not keep His Son down. He can not hold him in a sealed grave. He can not keep his soul in hell.

Man for years have been burying people and placing the casket in some kind of vault. Some cremate and some put their dead out to sea, floating down rivers and streams to the ocean. Everyone assuming that once those bodies are secure, or consumed by ocean floor, that nothing going to bring them back up again. The grave of Christ tomb was sealed, yet the stone was still rolled away by the earthquake that morning. Christ came up and out of the tomb. His resurrection bringing a physical and spiritual shaking the world had never known. One day the dead in Christ will rise first and then those that remain will rise up for the judgment. None of us can imagine those caskets being opened. Yet the very image of flooding brought many casket up out of the grave in New Orleans.

There is a point to my madness this morning. If you think the battle of Christ was in defeat at the cross you need to think again. The suffering was to show the physical part of God’s creation as being destructible, but the everlasting part of God can not be held down by any tomb. Christ eternal body, immortalized through His resurrection, into the body that was already His. Christ in His glorified state coming from the tomb. Scarred with the marks of destruction on his body, yet not destroyed.

God’s Holy Word has the marks of destruction recorded if a path of sin is followed and God’s Word has the marks of life recorded for those that diligently seek him. His protection on our life and our destruction only a symbol of both our humanity, and the enemies power given over the flesh, but not over the spiritual body, incorruptible body, or the soul. The scars of this world only defined by our sin, by being surrounded by the enemy, and the weakness of our human flesh. Only to be purified by the suffering of our Lord that we do not taste spiritual death, because of faith in God’s word of redemption through His Word/His Son, the sacrifice for sin.

Christ’s passion to bring eternal hope despite what state in life we are in. Whether we are surround by the enemy, or dwelling in God’s temple, or alone for the final walk of faith. David knew the emptiness of loss of parents and the final journey of not being able to turn to them, but being able to turn to God through out his life, despite his mistakes in life. He had hope through righteous by faith. Sacrifices performed by the Priest every year and atonement made as custom of the law. David knew the price of paying for sin. He lost his son. Yet he never lost God. Jesus knew what was to be forsaken by God, because he paid the price for our sin. He felt the spirit of God turn away from him as he faced his last breath. Only for the enemy to discover the Spirit of God had descended into the hell to set the captives free. David was never forsaken, yet he knew the punishment for sin. Jesus knew the price of sin for he paid it for you and me. A perfect man without sin paid the price that Adam’s sin caused. Yet we face the grave, we do not face spiritual death, but have victory through belief in Christ Jesus.

The difference between David and Jesus is only a glimpse of Christ’s passion to face the enemy on his home turf in the pit called hell. A place created for devil and his angels. David faced those devils on earth only to find peace and safety on earth. Christ faced the devil in the spiritual realm to have victory beyond the tomb for eternity. Christ dwells with His Father forever, despite being forsaken, because he paid the ultimate price for sin He did not deserve. He carried out the will of God.

Dear Heavenly Father has I think on the passion of Christ to follow your will even into destruction of the flesh, only to show your ability to restore and redeem from the grave, if we will trust in you, enable me to take up my own cross and follow you daily. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
