Luke 1:46-56 KJV
(46) And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
(47) And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
(48) For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
(49) For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
(50) And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
(51) He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
(52) He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
(53) He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
(54) He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
(55) As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
(56) And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.

One’s own parents is often the people you are most closes too, but it is not always the case. Yet it is hopefully the people you know the longest, if they die before their children. Yet they are often not the one’s protected by the most extreme anguish in life at the lost of their parents. It having the very heart and core of any immediate family member being ripped from your heart. How Mary would not know what would be her biggest heart ache would also be her greatest joy as the Mother of the Lord Jesus Christ. She knew who ability and power long before it was time for Him to demonstrate his power to others. How many times besides turning water into wine had Jesus been there as provider for Mary‘s request. How many times had He been seen has more then just a normal child to Mary. Yet she knew the joy of knowing she would be called blessed among women. Yet her being favor of all else would not be clearly understood till many years later and perhaps that is why Elizabeth greeting to Mary was so important as a recognition of Mary royalty as Mother of Jesus. For Jesus one day would even shun his mother when talking to the crowd. Yet He on the cross would make provision for his mother through the disciple John, caring for His mother with great love while in pain.

Mary knowing who her Son was, only added to the joy and burden on having to explain to others how she was not pregnant by Joseph. Even suffering no doubt through the Jewish leaders inquisition of her being pregnant though scripture does not say but can be concluded by the fact Joseph desired to put Mary away quietly.

Who was this mother but one chosen by God to experience the greatest heart break and joy ever known to a mother. Even with Christ resurrection, Jesus would not be able to physically be there for His earthly mother any longer. Yet spiritually He be with her for eternity. Not just in the heart but through every spiritual breath she spoke, heard and received. No other mother could claim what Mary’s own soul would be able to understand . Women loose children everyday to cancer and other deadly illness, only knowing first hand the pain of loosing their child. Loss of their child causing some to turn to God and others away. Yet Mary could not be angry with God, because He was God’s Son. How could she be angry with being blessed, how could she weep with sorrow knowing the opportunity she had as mother to our Lord. Mary did not just attached to her Son emotionally, but spiritually at the works of Christ were demonstrated before her. Every woman who lost a child, knows the pain of Mary with each suffering breath of their child.

How did Mary keep from lashing out at the soldiers as the nailed Jesus to the cross, no one will understand. Had she lost hope, or did she have the hope of the resurrection. Did the Spirit of God comfort her through the apostle John. God’s own heart broke as He left Christ on the cross by His Spirit leaving Christ earthly body.

Mary great joy of understanding she would be the Mother of the Lord never prepared her for her sorrow. The joy would have been so great, that what would lay ahead would never prepare her for that sorrow. Yet Mary stayed with Elizabeth a Priest wife for three months until John the Baptist was born another miracle of God. Did Elizabeth expound the scripture more clearly to Mary while in her home of the verses surrounding the Messiah and what was to come. Was this visit a training ground for Mary journey. Scripture does not say, but Mary’s going on home had more meaning with the birth of her cousin John, because of the promise from God to her.

Yes there many question unclear of the time period of the announcement of the Messiah soon arrival, but we know that when God chooses a person for a task, he prepares you for the things to come. No doubt Mary was prepared for her heart ache and sorrow through joy of who she was as mother to our Lord.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for preparation of the journey yet to come in this life. Give us strength and hope for our own journey as you did for Mary’s. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
