When a person takes a two day vacation, one would think they could leave there job behind. In most cases most leave their work till they get back unless they have new people needing a babysitter still. The hours of work detail of bosses are often under paid and often deserving of more money, unless they have figured how to get those under them to do most of the work if not all of it. It is the hypocrisy of being a boss. After all the boss is suppose to be in charge, but often hires capable people to handle all his duties. Some might even say they pass the bosses office and see him with his feet on the desk and his head laying against the soft back of his office chair. Yet most people admire a boss that not afraid to get his hands dirty and work beside his employees especially in the busy hours of the day.
Jesus never really got much relaxation time while on earth. To take time off was like finding a place of solitude that seldom happened except perhaps when Jesus would find a place of prayer. A minister like Jesus if he willing to work as no fear of finding work, there starving people for Jesus, they just have to be attentive the Spirit of God, but it does not mean the church will be filled, or the pews overrunning with people. Jesus came to a house and asked for the men not to be told where he was. Apparently he was in the home of a person that felt no need to notify the authority of His presents, yet it did not stop people from coming for healing or a miracle. This seems like odd request by Jesus, yet Jesus never quit his work. Perhaps the Syrophenician, probably part Greek and part Syrian/Canaanite. Perhaps a woman that did not even follow the God of Israel. She came because her daughter was possessed by a devil and she had heard of Jesus and the miracles He performed. Where ever the woman had gotten the authority that Jesus had power to heal, she believed enough to ask Jesus to cast out the devil from her daughter. Her daughter apparently at home. Many people come to churches for healing, expecting a miracle because they heard someone else was healed there or “by God” or a minister. The word might of filter the minister healed a person, but the minister if a man of God will say God healed that person. Most people grasp that God has the power to heal if they are believers. Yet in all truth with millions and billions of people in the world do you think God ever gets a vacation. Well Jesus tried to get one on earth, but the miracles were to great to keep it silent. This is one passage Jesus is trying to hid his light. Perhaps because of the territory of unbelief. Yet his woman that sought Jesus was a woman who believed what she had heard about Jesus.
People will want to know where a person was healed at to either avoid or flock to that place. Yet those with knowledge know that God’s healing power in this world is wherever God’s Spirit is. Healing can come in the hospital bed, as well as a church or street corner. Where is your faith to ask God for healing. The woman came to Jesus asking for healing of her daughter who had a devil in her. When she went home she found her daughter on the bed resting peacefully. Faith is asking away from a situation and believing that healing can be accomplished for someone while they are not present.
Jesus tells the woman that the children should be feed first before the dogs. Yet the woman’s reply is the dogs eat the crumbs of the children. Because she was not an Israelite some felt she was unworthy to even ask Jesus for anything. Yet God is clear He is a God to all that ask and seek. Jesus being the Son of God makes that clear by speaking to people not necessarily of the Jewish faith but are believers. Some might call them outcast. They do not belong in the religious sector of society of the traditional group of faith. People wonder is that possible all belong that believe to the church world. Yes the spiritual I do not argue with, but the structured church it is still possible today. I remember a friend of mine years ago telling me about a man of faith that never go to church. And I wonder then how could this be. I young, never missing a day of church back then. It is possible not to fit into the mold of traditional church and have faith. However it not something to strive for. Yet it does not matter God still has the power to heal and to build your faith in Himself and His Son. The Holy Spirit can convict you right where you are.
The Greek Canaanite woman was a woman of faith, just not of the house of Israel. She might have been even Idolater though scriptures does not say. Yet she did not forbid her to come, but pointed the fact to her that she was not an Israelite. Yet He said go your faith has healed your daughter. The words your faith is key she was not idolater even though from the land of Idolatry. Faith is not based on where you are from, it based on what is in your heart. The woman left and found her daughter well.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you that faith is not where you are from but what is in one’s heart. Help each believer grow in faith in Christ Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
