Matthew 9:9-13 KJV
(9) And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the
receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
(10) And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and
sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.
(11) And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master
with publicans and sinners?
(12) But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a
physician, but they that are sick.
(13) But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am
not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Jesus called us to be among the sinners, but did not call us to be the sinner. Jesus
came first to his own people, but his mission was to the lost. His mission to see those on
the outside of faith brought in. Rehab a harlot was brought into the tribe of Israel, yet she
was a believer of the stories she heard coming into Jericho and so she protect the men of
Israel. There are believers among the heathen and yet our failure to reach out to the lost
and dying world is one chief things threatening the church world. The church without a
mission field is dead. The mission field to the lost has been from the beginning. Did not
God call Abraham out of heathen land. Was not Abraham own father a worshipper of
more then one God. Did not God speak to idolater Abimelech, did God not speak to
Balaam. Did God not speak to Moses? Did God not speak to Israel? Did God not speak to
Hagar? Did God not speak to the heathen as well as the believer? Did God not speak to
the lost as well as the believer. Then our ignoring the world has no value. The call to
mission is to the world. The call to the church is a call of faith. The hope of life is the
hope restored. I grew up with the Great Commission of God etched in my brain since the
age of eight probably. Yet even at eight it is a call to all, not just ministers. Who needs
healing not the well, not the ones knowing God, but the ones lost from God. Jesus
demonstrated the calling of God and the voice or spokesmen to the world. The official
spokesmen that speaks to the individual both sinner and saved alike. As saved people is
our self righteousness keeping us from speaking to the lost.
Is our cried of to God send me, or is our cry to the Lord not now? Isaiah the prophet voice
was send me. Christ in Psalms 2 voice to God said send me until I make your enemies a
footstool. Replayed in Hebrews 1. God’s Word says I will go forth and tell the story.
God’s people call is to go forth and share the Word knowing that no one can change a
person but God’s word. Your influence to help change a life is real, but ultimately it is the
voice of God whether loud like trumpet, rushing mighty wind or the still small voice, God
does the official call. Even Jesus told Peter that it was the Holy Spirit that told you that I
was the Christ. Was it Jesus who declared himself to you or was it the Father, the word
and the Holy Spirit communicating with man. Almost sound like schizophrenia but the
voice of God is true, it is also prophetic to events to come. The test is if what prophetic
something you would or could of known. If the answer is no, then you know that is God.
Do you need the doctor, or do you just need Jesus? Jesus called and spoke to both the
saved and lost. He answered both the religious and the one’s seeking. God’s deaf ear is
sometimes to the unrepented saved and secured people. The Jews were saved, but their
hearts before the exile were harden because of sin against God. The Jewish restoration is
a heart towards God. The Christian restoration is a change in the heart and need for
repentance. The backslider as well as the lost need rescuing. However you can not control
the rescue you can only obey God. Jesus authority to rescue came from God
commissioning Him to be the Word. We can be like Jesus but we are not Jesus. Our
words can hurt or heal. Is your words hurting or healing today. Jesus is the great
physician, but until He returns, Jesus gave the commission to Go and teach and preach to
all. Who did He give it to but to his disciples.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for commissioning us that believe to share your
mission. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
