Faith Healing

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Acts 5:14-29 KJV
(14) And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)
(15) Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
(16) There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.
(17) Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,
(18) And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.
(19) But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
(20) Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
(21) And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
(22) But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told,
(23) Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.
(24) Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
(25) Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
(26) Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.
(27) And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
(28) Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
(29) Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

The faith healing experience is not something that can be studied in such away to be able to give exact definition that everyone experience will be the same. Never in scripture has the emphases been go to the doctor for healing but instead seek Jesus for healing. In the Old Testament though healing did occur it was not wide spread as in the day of Jesus. Today many seek the Holy Spirit and find healing, yet some cases are not documented by science. Faith healers emphases the Holy Spirit and His healing power. Not everyone that seeks God is healed of a terrible disease. It is those times that it hard to understand, when the anointing of God is strong in place of Godís people.

The Spirit of God was strong in Peterís life so much his very shadow cast upon the sick caused healing. Yet it was not the shadow of healing that brought healing, it was the power of God flowing in Peterís life. Moses filled with the Holy Spirit never experienced these events in the New Testament. He did have a face that shined so bright it scared and terrified the people. Peter experience was only a testimony of Jesus to the crowd that followed of the power of God working in his life. Peter faced imprisonment because of the power of God and God would release Peter by an angel out of prison, who told them to go preach in the temple. Peter would obey and teach in the temple only to be questioned by the authorities once more and Peter would tell them it is better to obey God then man.

To obey God is divine power working in oneís life to submission not understood by the world. To experience the divine intervention of God is not understood by the world, though it does make interesting stories to the world. To the believer it is the hope one day God will move in their life in such away that they to will know the obedience to God is greater in their life an the confirmation Peter had in his life was so great that even others envy Peterís experience. God did not call everyone to be faith healer, but call all to pray for the sick. The faith healer is not the healer it the power of God.

Even the devil obeys God knowing the power of God. The antichrist knows the power of Godís word even in the believerís life. He knows the value of the faith experience and will do everything to destroy the experience of the power of God in a personís life. Yet in all truth the devil cannot destroy what God builds. He can destroy what man builds. The physical building of the temple is of God but it only reflects spiritual building and is not spiritual building. Even Noah had to come out of the ark to know the reality of the spiritual journey he was on. The reality had to be seen by the human experience. Inside the ark Noah only heard the screams and then the silence. The open door told the story all was gone.

The person of faith will still be standing even if the devil destroys the things around him. The knowledge that the thing man builds is meant for destruction to come, but the things built by Godís hand will stand beyond the experience. Crucifying Jesus did not stop the power of God continual flow of his Spirit after the resurrection, it only gave the flowing of the Spirit a new beginning place in which to enable the believer to know His desire to give them boldness to preach and teach His word and to demonstrate His power through healing of the masses.

Real faith healing is not about someone controlling Godís power but about Godís power flowing so great in someone elseís life to the point it causes belief in someone else, that seeking God even for healing occurs. The testimony of the power of God in someone life is to bring about conviction or healing in someone else. Does your life bring healing to others, or only injury. You can not heal, God has to do a work of healing in your life that your testimony speaks of Godís ability to heal, and mend the down trodden.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the testimony of others that spurs the unbelieverís heart to belief. Help us to share our experience of your power in our life so others too will believe and seek you for the testimony of obedience to your will. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
