Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Psalms 91:1-16 KJV
(1) He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
(2) I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
(3) Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
(4) He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
(5) Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
(6) Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
(7) A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
(8) Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
(9) Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
(10) There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
(11) For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
(12) They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
(13) Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
(14) Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
(15) He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
(16) With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Lord is my refuge, powerful words of people of faith. It speaks of God having wings, and it often reminds me of mother swan. The mother swan lays her wings down so your duckling can board her body. They nestle down in the under part of the wing and hide inside against her body. Nestled in the wing the baby ducklings grow and become strong learning to test their web feet in the stream or lake of water. Never far from momma do those ducklings swim. They swim all in row keeping up with mama duck. God’s children often nestle into the word of God when trouble and problems arise. They nestle down for comfort, for truth, and protection, yet they swim like the baby ducks out in the world following in the footsteps of God.

The soldier of faith is one that learns to fight with the sword of truth and breastplate of righteousness. He carries his faith in battle. He is not afraid of the night or day. He marches on under the wings of the Almighty in the protection of God. Whether in battle or at peace, he sees the judgment of the enemy. As a believer one understand that at one point they faced destruction to come, only through faith in Jesus do they understand his saving grace provided by the Father for all mankind. In our weakness of faith God is strong. In our weakness God carries us, less we should fall. If our trials becoming a stumbling stone, then God is able to lift us above them to keep us from falling. God shelter us and enables us to be in the world around us. He covers us no matter the obstacles we face, if we will trust in Him to deliver us from evil.

God is not a God that wants mankind to forget Him, but a God that wants us to honor him and to recognize Him. If we do these things God will deliver when we call upon Him. It when we fail to honor God, that His salvation is removed from our life, even if we survive in this world, there no salvation for the next. God provides salvation for his people. He is a God of mercy and grace. He promises a long life to His people. Eternity is a long life. None of us can fully understand what eternity means. Yet the glimmer of hope of heaven and descent to earth with Christ is all we need for the New Jerusalem is a place where and God and man will dwell together for eternity. Where the light never darkens.

Dear Heavenly Father has we trust in your word and hope of salvation through Christ Jesus, let us remember you will hold us up from falling and shelters in your arms. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
