Matthew 19:1-12 KJV
(1) And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;
(2) And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.
(3) The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
(4) And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
(5) And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
(6) Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
(7) They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
(8) He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
(9) And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
(10) His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.
(11) But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.
(12) For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

Culture has always effect how many spouses were allowed. Yet God’s intent was one man and one woman. Any other number was cheating on a spouse. Jesus is quick to point out the answer to the question of whether divorce is lawful. Fact is in a perfect world divorce is not necessary. The law of marriage was given in heaven. The law of divorce was given on earth. By the law Moses not God but man’s law the rule of divorce was acceptable. What is unlawful to man on earth but what man decides or God?
The answers to the age old question if a man pays a wife alimony should he remarry, or become a eunuch for life even if it not a physical Eunuch. Jesus realizes for some men this is impossible. It is hard teaching. Society dictates number of spouses and if it was acceptable or not by people, not God. God intent was never more then one spouse. As we head towards Father’s day one has to examine the principal’s of marriage. Without a right relationship with man and woman there is no happy home for a marriage. Notice keyword is marriage. One could argue that someone living with someone is has happy as a married couple. Yet this couple out of wedlock is in sin, they are only as committed to each other has they are willing to be. No contract of marriage or commitment out of wedlock. When men married more then one spouse they were committed to caring for each woman they took in. Today society across the USA and even other countries frown on plural marriages and in some areas it against the law. On ancient books it was against the law to be caught in bed with someone outside of marriage.
Today people do pretty much what they please, cops seldom go into the legal accusation to see if someone is married only if they are of age, whether something is consensual or whether something is rape or abuse. Cops care little who is and who is not. It not something society really worries about today. Yet one time you could be dragged from the bed of your lover and would be stoned, or jailed. Some cultures this still exist.
The point is laws change in society that does not always reflect the ways of God. Yet should a woman that is batter spend the rest of her life in abuse of course not. Yet some women choose too out of fear of their spouse and their God. If an adulterer will not enter the kingdom of God who is then left to enter into the kingdom of God? Jesus spoke to the woman at the well and did not seem concerned really about her relationships only to take note he knew about them. He was more concerned about spiritual life of her eternity. What does this mean, it not about human adultery, but about our spiritual adultery God is concerned about in regards to eternity. Adam and Eve committed spiritual adultery and found themselves outside of heaven. Abraham found himself outside the will of God when he took his wife Sarah advice and slept with Hagar. God said it would be a promise seed through his marriage with Sarah. God’s will works through proper channels. All children born are a blessing, but not all are in the plan of God in the since of the Messianic bloodline. The purity of heir is a mistake for was not Ruth married to second Israelite, and David wife of adultery was Solomon mother heir to the throne. God choose the father and the mother to carry on the messianic descendant.
If all the relationships in the line to Jesus was not perfect then what does this say about God’s tolerance in regards to human law? If marriage is defined as sacred then one has to ask did they marry the one God intended for them to marry. One could ask these types of questions all day long, but it what it says is God uses whoever He will for His plans. So if you are born to a harlot consider this that your life is not defined by your mother choice. If you a child of a father from multiple marriages, then you are still a blessing and can be used by God by your choice.
There is no room to adulterer to God, yet God sent Son to redeem the adulterer of faith by giving you his Son’s image to follow and to look too. God got all the bases covered for your need. Even Israel took foreign wives that committed adultery and lead the men astray from God. God was not pleased, and so He sent His Son to capture our hearts and put us on the right track toward God. A health marriage is God ordained, but God uses the marriage of even the adulterer to cause His will to be.
Dear Heavenly Father remind us of your perfect will of marriage of one spouse of the opposite sex, even though you use what ever relationship we are in for your will and purpose to glorify your name. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
