Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

2 Chronicles 8:11-12 KJV
(11) And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy, whereunto the ark of the LORD hath come.
(12) Then Solomon offered burnt offerings unto the LORD on the altar of the LORD, which he had built before the porch,

Solomon a worshipper of God, a king of wisdom who was granted and given wisdom by God, who was blessed beyond measure by God would one day worship foreign gods. Did Solomon ever repent the world will never know before Christ returns, yet we can get the since that Solomon might of eventually turned back wholeheartedly to the Lord. Solomon built the house for his wife. A place outside the temple and outside his own home. Outside his own perhaps because of business needs and her desire for privacy, or maybe it had to do with his wife heritage yet I suspect not. Perhaps it was the wealth that caused him to put his wife in her own place. Perhaps they did not get along, after all King Solomon would marry over eight hundred women. These women would turn Solomon heart to strange gods.

I think the hardest part to understand Solomon life is Solomon having eight hundred wives, or that Solomon built a house and his wife a house a place outside the temple. It is almost as Solomon boxed in God with the temple. In God’s house he worshipped God and performed the sacrifices and in his own house and his wife’s house he lived like the devil. Scripture in Galatians 2 says the devil believes and tremble. Solomon knew his wealth came from the Lord, but his father law destroyed Solomon’s enemies that were pressing against him in the land of Canaan. Perhaps he seen the wealth of his father in law and desired more then what God granted him. Maybe the blessings of God began to allow the devil to tempt him into evil. God had blessed Solomon, yet Solomon would turn from God. We know his first wife as unholy to be in the temple. The temple did have a woman’s court and yet she did not go to the house of the Lord nor dwelt in it. How unwelcome Solomon’s wife must of felt not to be allowed to stay in the temple because of being unholy.

Solomon’s blessings of God became like Angel Lucifer knowledge that God thought he was more beautiful then any other angel and yet when he exalted himself to be God he fell and was cast out of heaven. Did Solomon get cast out of his kingdom because of his sin against God the answer is no, but he did cause the kingdom to one day be divided, but not in his life time. Solomon would live all his days in the splendor God gave him despite his worship of idols, but what he did not realize was the loosing of his soul because of idolatry. Yet scripture never says Solomon repented to God but some scholars believe he did. After all how could one not serve the one true God that gave you everything you desired. Apparently Solomon’s fall began with first wife living in separate houses.

To have the world and to have family issues is not love. Yet to gain the blessings of God and use what God gives to chase your own lust and desires can be a deadly combination. To gain the world and loose your relationship with God because of lust for women in Solomon case but it could be anything it does not have to be for sexual pleasure, can leave a person with the feeling of wantonness, need and desiring the things of God. To have the ability to have the sin of your heart, does not give you satisfaction. Solomon had wisdom to rule his people but not to control himself of his own desires and needs. He began to trade the blessings of God with his wife house he built. For she was not holy enough to bring to God house.

God wants to purify the people in our lives who are unholy. He wants to cleanse them as He did us. If you never bring those in your heart to the throne of God sin will reign in their home and in their children’s lives.

Dear Heavenly Father remind us how unless our desires line up with your will your blessings will only be on this earth and not heavenly. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
