Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Luke 14:21-24 KJV
(21) So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
(22) And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
(23) And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
(24) For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

Do you need Jesus? Are you a person of low degree, or high degree. Are you on the move for the Lord in your area. Some people have a God given gift to just spread the Gospel in the highways and byways of life. Yet we all are called to spread the Gospel. Spreading the Gospel to those that will listen in the church, and then outside the church in our own neighborhoods. Then we called to go beyond our neighborhoods to the highways and byways of life. Is it easier to invite someone to church or invite them to know Jesus. If you invite them to church you are hopefully inviting them to a place to know Jesus. Yet the issue are you inviting them to know Jesus right where they stand. There two type of way to bring people into the spiritual church, introducing them to Christ through actions and words and other ways is to bring them to a place they can be taught. If you can not teach them but have the love of God bring them to the church. Bring to Jesus. Woman at the well brought her town to Jesus with the question of is this the Messiah? The Disciples were sent out by two’s in a group of seventy and compelled people to come see Jesus. Lydia taught on the creek bank, while Dorcas made purple cloth and was known for her kindness and work as a believer. Paul was known as a warrior for Jesus preaching in the church and wherever he found himself to be whether it was on the street corner or in prison.

The compelling by God’s leading is not only about walking as Philip in obedience to God’s call to go to a certain place, but by command to compel them in. God called us to compel as His disciple. Yet we are also compelled to teach instead of just bring them to a place to learn and to witness the things of Jesus. I get frustrated when I hear people tell people you better get to church, instead of you need Jesus. Yet sometimes both ways are necessary. Meaning sometimes the person needs to know there a place to learn and to grow and other times just the place to kneel with out four walls but right there for spiritual healing to trust Jesus as Savior. The church part can come later. It not about physical kneeling, but a spiritual kneeling. I once passed on opportunity to share Jesus, with a woman who had become a widow and was in the grocery store just talking in passing. I felt guilty without leaving her hope. It was at time I had no church home. It was at a time I was struggling in faith, but the Spirit of God pricked my heart as if to say I mourning for you, because you can not reach up and grab hold of my truth. It not about building but about faith individually, you are invited to the Lamb’s Supper with or without being in church. This is what people need to know. The door to God is there for them no matter if they are in gutter or in a big multimillion dollar executive office. All one has to do is ask Jesus into their heart.

God has commanded us to tell those needing Jesus about Him, and yet do we do it. I am guilty and have been guilty of silence at times in my life and other times that outward witness flows. So no matter where you are in the witnessing path, realize going by God’s Spirit is always in obedience to His Word. And if you are obeying God by going where you are to share Christ, then you doing what His Spirit says whether you realize it has the Spirit or not. Obeying the Spirit is not just about a feeling, but is about obeying God’s word. Obeying what scripture teaches about the things of God. Compelling people in is God’s command and it is by His Spirit we do so by faith.

The scripture passage above is talking about Jesus coming to compel the people to the wedding feast that are not friends of God but people needing God. People now chosen to know Him. People God seeking to be at the wedding feast. God is calling the Gentile people the people outside of Israel to the feast in heaven. Opening the door to where ever a person is to come in.

Dear Heavenly Father strengthen your people to rise up like eagles to spread the Gospel, obeying your will as your disciples to share that good news by obedience to your word. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
