The Need For Intercessor
7/14/2015

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Job 16:20-22 KJV
(20) My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.
(21) O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!
(22) When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.

I can remember how excited I got over these few verses the first time I seen them, that before I found the verses about Israel asking God for Moses to speak for them. Job a Gentile was in trouble, he lost his everything he own but his nagging wife and three friends who tormented him more then they helped him. Yet because of his friends discourse maybe he was able to rationalize his thoughts to who God truly is. Who is God that we have the right to question Him or His authority, or even request that He listen to us. There things God grants us humans that we never grasp is the grace of God. God’s grace is sufficient for all our needs except when we going through a crisis. My hands still itch this morning from my encounter with poisonous sumac. I thought it be gone by now. As my hands type, I find the need to scratch then to type, and yet with all the itch God hears my complaint, reminds me this only a minor inconvenience this morning, for it is not a disaster or a loss of family, it is just the repercussions of getting in poison sumac. Yet Job was living life to the fullest until devil ask God if he could test Job. How often someone else desires effects us, especially when it comes to the devil. The devil brings many inconvenience to us, but in truth God wants to bless us after the storm that the devil deals us.

While the devil dealing out his storm on our life, our question is why does not God intercede? Why can I not have a lawyer that will defend me to God? Why do I have to be beat down like a dog? Why do I have to deal with these heart aches and heavy burdens. Why do I have to deal with anxiety of all these problems and heartaches? Yet every dark cloud is suppose to have a silver lining. Yet Job in his misery says Lord why not have one person to plead my case. Lord if just one person would plead my cause with you I am sure you bless me again. Was Job so righteous to think he deserved all the blessings of the Lord. The He never deserved hardship.

If I really wanted to complain about more then poison Sumac this morning trust me I could. Yet I am refusing to complaining but asking God to grant the grace I need to go through all my struggles and frustration for the day. Oh why not tell you my complaint it does not matter. The other day I had a back up emergency plan cancel on me. Never missed a payment on a bill, and in truth what was thought to be emergency backup plan got cancelled. My anger rose about ten degrees as I made phones calls to find out if there was alternative and of course no alternative could be found. Yet God says to me am I not emergency back up plan enough for you. Yet at the same time I do not believe God created us to be stupid about certain things in life. I do not think God intends us to just assume the rapture of the church will necessarily be in our life time, but it might be. After all here today gone tomorrow. If God’s grace is sufficient why take precautions. Job if he had taken precautions would it had brought his family back. After all Job did take precautions. He even sacrificed not only for his sins, but the sins of his family despite how old they were. Job was over zealot righteous man. Yet Job’s loss effect him. It took away his means to provide for his wife and himself. After all he lost his livestock. He lost his children who were all together having a dinner party. He lost his health with sores all over his body. The devil did not stop at the fruit of labor but also his body.

There is a point Job had every reason to ask God what he had done. He had been blessed man and in one day lost everything. Yet at the same time who was Job to ask God to answer him to have some plead his cause. Did not God promise those who served him they would blessed. Did not God say if you keep His commandments he would bless you and your family. Job had worshipped and offer appropriate sacrifice and he was suffering. Had Job made a mistake, did God make a mistake? No the devil was seeing who he could torment in the land he roam free in. We are effected by those around us. Evil people do there best to destroy God’s people. They have no desire to help but to hurt.

Now with pleading the cause before God why did not God trample Job’s enemy, instead he gives Job three friends to rebuke him. Yet Job felt he could question God concerning his Word. He needed someone to intercede for Him about what God had already said and declared to man.

God then would turn around and say Job I see all the world including you and yet you ask for me to straighten out what the devil did to you. Job says Yes I need a lawyer. A friend who will go to bat and declare your word back to you. God knows His word. God knows what He has promised to those who are righteous. Yet He allows the devil to test, so we know who we are as a child of God, so that we know that God will bless again, that we know God is not out to destroy us, but to deliver us from all evil. That God is going to take care of all the devil destroys and restores us and heal us, whether it be in heaven or on earth it will be God’s timing.

The intercessor God provides is the Word that He has declare to mankind. The word that became flesh and dwelt among us has God’s own Son. God Son faced the devil and arose to victory to sit at the Father’s right hand on the throne. One day to when our life is over we will have won the victory of eternal salvation to sit in the kingdom with God. To talk with Him and to walk with Him in paradise.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your word has intercessor, thank for the Lawyer Jesus, who delivers your promises to us to give us hope of a better tomorrow. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
