Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Mark 8:22-30 KJV
22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
28 And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.

Those seeking evidence will find none and those needing deliverance will receive it. How hard to grasp in Jesus day he began to push away the crowd for seekers of evidence. This would be a place to be full of doubt who Jesus is. A good place for those who were seeking evidence to begin to spread the leaven of the Pharisees. Whether this is when the people began to slowly turn from Jesus I do not know. What I do know is Jesus instead of pushing the crowd away took the blind man outside the city to heal him. Apparently this man had not always been blind, but no way knowing for sure. However the evidence of needed faith is clear as Jesus touch his eyes only for the blind man to only see his vision not fully restore and to say he see men like trees walking, When Jesus laid his hands on the man a second time, now what do you see, and the man was restored and could see clearly.

The events unfolding or reversing how he once saw and then how he once again had full vision. He lost his sight maybe slowly at first and then all at once. His vision impaired much like our faith is, with doubts and hardeness of heart. Yet faith can be restored through having the blinders or issue of the blindness removed and then the final touch to see the full picture of the trouble and our doubts.

If you take a child who comes in late for dinner, and the parents ground the son for a week without knowing the reason or even caring for the reason the child is late, the blinders of compassion is harden to the rules set up by the parents. Now later a neighbor comes by and says you child help clean my garden, wash my windows and carry my groceries in when I returned from the store. I sorry if I made your child late. The child was grounded so he had no way of beckoning the neighbor for help. The neighbor said the child left in a hurry and he wanted to pay him for his time. Now the parents have nice crisp ten dollar bill in hand to give their son, only to now have to to unground their child, telling them here is ten dollars and you can go back and help next week.

Jesus would be back to the town of Bethsaida, but the evidence would return eventually without Jesus to the little town no doubt. First things first the once blind man had to return to his family and home and tell what Jesus had done for him. The excitment of the crowd maybe would cause the man to be stone where he had begged for money thinking he was a fake, or with his family and friends returning being the witness would keep the man safe. I not sure if the man returned, but the evidence was sent to his family and friends and not to the town. How had he got to the town by a neighbor or friend probably to sit on the road and beg. Yet without a friend he was bait for doubters and skeptics of who Jesus was and his power.

Jesus was producing the faith in the man with two healings. The possibly made real and the second the fullness of faith restore. Jesus sent him home. He return not to those skeptics needing a sign. However he began to ask his disciples who do people say he is. Some said John the Baptist, others Elias and others one of the prophets of old coming back to life. Jesus said who do you say I am, and Peter said the Christ(meaning the anointed). Then he tells them not to tell who he was.

The mystery why would Jesus not want anyone to know who he was. Perhaps the crowds coming to him, maybe those who desire to test him. Yet maybe it was the simply the crowd would not believe, or they needed to be harden to crucify him first instead of hearing the truth of who He was. Their hardeness of heart for the purpose that Jesus would be crucified for their sins, taking away the sin offering and showing them God was a forgiving God, through his resurrection. Repentance and sorrow would come after the cross. See the boy in the story was crucified by his parents by their grounding without knowing why he was late. Yet he was resurrected when the truth was known. And his job returned as Christ job was returned as Redeemer and friend to all that would believe.

The blinders of faith must come off one step at a time for the whole picture to be understood. The reason for mistrust, the reason for the cross, and the reason for the resurrection. Why do we need God's word, because without it, our life is chaotic and people are just evil. With the law of our land, people are evil and untrust worthy. The removing of the law only to see the reason for the law of peace and safety. Chaos must come for the need for the need of the law to be seen clearly. Faith has to be hard at times, for us to understand the message God is trying to teach us concerning our relationship with him. We can not undo our sin, but we can repent and turn from it. We can not go backwards we must move ahead knowing Christ can forgive but the need for a new start necessary. Jesus did not tell the blind man to return to the city because he needed a new start with bringing the evidence home.

Dear Heavenly Father remove the blinders, so we can see clearly, strengthen our faith with only allowing part of the process to be completed first and then full restoration, in Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 1 Corinthians 13:12 KJV
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

1 John 3:1-3 KJV
1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

James 1:21-25 KJV
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
