15 And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.
16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?
17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
18 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
19 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
21 No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
22 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles. Pharisees by tradition and Jewish law could not associate with sinners or even wine and dine with them. You and I are familiar with this thinking. After all most people even in lunch rooms sit by themselves or in groups of people that they perfer to be associated with. It nothing new, people might all gather together, but they still sit in groups. In truth even if it only a small group of people they may socialize but it is only small chitchat or the latest joke, or news story that touch the heart, or angered the mob. In simple truth people still gather even if they don't truly fit in with a particular circle of people to dine, to talk, to communicate, because everyone has to eat. Yet everyone still to some degree is clickish, it begins in the school yard, we socialize with people we mostly agree with, or get along with or live near. Jews just had a custom that people did not dine with people different then them because of religious beliefs, because they were to keep themselves pure, an outward holiness, that was suppose to reflect the inward heart, but in truth it obvious through Jewish stories it did not.
Jesus took the matter of the question of who he at with as if to say I eat with them because they need a physician and not with you because you do not need a physician. Can not call people of faith to repentance but people that are sinners to repentance. Righteousness comes by first faith and repentance(turning away of sin). If you had faith and turned from sin you were whole spiritual speaking. Yet the sinner needed faith in God and had none. John, his disciples and Pharisees when among sinners use to fast. Can the children of the bridechamber fast while the bridegroom is with them. He is speaking of himself and the gentile nation being the children of the bride. The bride being the church and the mother of the children to come, because the church carries the witness of faith to others, and God gives the increase of the church through spiritual rebirth. Jesus telling them he eating with those that will be saved, the sinners that will be part of his church. That he is their father of their faith.
Jesus can not bring these people to the temple, because they are new wine that will only burst old wineskin. Wineskin was used once but could not be refilled or it would leak. Trying to change an old person habits is like pulling teeth, no one wants to change or to have a tooth pulled, but in order for old wineskin to be filled the inner lining would have to be change. The new people in the synagogue would only cause heartburn to the traditionalist and cause feuding. Instead of putting new wine in old skin for it to destroy the temple, they put them in a new building, a new place of worship and say welcome. New laws and new covenant. Does the law change of course not, but what happens is the change of the heart, soul and mind by the Holy Spirit.
It like bigotry, you can not change old mindset, but you can change the mindset and attitudes of young people. Put babies of all racist together, they will love each other, play games together, and see no differences in generatl, but you put a 92 year old with a 92 year old of another race and there is a history of differences that can not be undone, not even in language even if there is no hate meant or ignitiated. There language represents their age, not their their heart, only their old mind of how it was and use to be. It filters into the next generation until it no longer exist, but in a book of historical origin.
Jesus is answering questions of bigotry concerning those he ate with. He was invited for a meal he sat down and ate with them never giving it a second thought, until pharisees question him and then he explained to them in language they perhaps would understand. At the time of Gideon the people had to far to go and so they established a second temple in their area, that also became corrupt at times in history. Because of the corruption they were not allowed in the Jewish temple accept in the gentile court, but were recognized as people having faith perhaps.
It is the issue that plagues our land, by who poor and who is rich. It is the issue that plagues our land by who is cultured by art and litature and others culture by trashy tv shows, or good tv shows. I got a category of those that watch trashy shows and repeat the garabage. It the difference between inter city and uptown crowd. It is the difference of those incline to violence and those incline to peace. When those of our land that are not peaceful in nature crash the whitehouse it shows what type of person was leading the march to Pelosi and her house, never realizing if they had wanted to do real damage they would not of moved out so quick to peace, when leaving the building. The moment over came a group of people that normally do not participate in probably a march, with the president premission and blessing they went forth. Only to grasp as things began to calm in a since to realize maybe we should not of done it that way. I think to my self it is the rise of south all over again at bull run. Opportunity to fight only pushed back by the north, because they did not continue forward at the start of the war.
President Trump knows that a war is not going to solve a thing, only moving through the legal process of hope is. In time, even senate and house will understand their own failure in the events leading up to it and it having nothing to do with money but votes and President Trumps first impeachment. Votes that they even questioned when their own party lost.
No nothing changed in our world from Jesus day to our day, only language, teaching of peace, hope and God eternal plan for man. If we fail to not educate those not educated then we fail to tell them what true love, hope and faith is in God. With God there is no bigotry, but when it can not be changed through teaching other course has to take place, action of showing continual love, for Jesus would go to the cross because of the hate of the pharisees and the people and a man of insurrection would be set free because of the crowd wanted to crucify Jesus more then a man that had crimes against him. His name Barabbas.
What the point Jesus continued after the cross to demonstrate more love then the people ever deserved showing his love for man was greater then we could imagine. Where is your heart today, are you ready to receive Christ love, or only willing to receive the love of others just like yourself. One of the worse things I ever heard out of unbelievers mouth was, until you walked my road, I will not believe in your God. If your life is that miserable why would you wish it on even your apparent enemy. Stop the tragedy warfare of who been through worse, and lets put on where are you now and how can love and faith in Christ change your life for the better. Truth is we all have sinned, and without God's grace we have no salvation.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to be witness to all people, rich, poor, different then ourselves, for your word says we have one thing in common, and that is that we all have sinned and fallen short of your glory. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
