The One Testimony

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

John 1:6-15 KJV
(6) There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
(7) The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
(8) He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
(9) That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
(10) He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
(11) He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
(12) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
(13) Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
(14) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
(15) John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

Most people that write a book or website have many accreditations. People who will say information provide is true or false. Backers that can testify that what is said is true. Newspaper have proof text there people enough to know the accuracy of their work, and books of big authors have accreditations of their work through other writers on a certain subject. It is the personal view or opinion that is harder to analysis if one disagree or has to dig into research to see if there any others that agree with that view. All views are legitimate in one way if they bear truth and accuracy. How can accuracy be established if any part of one statement is false. It can not be.

John bore witness to life of Jesus that He was the Son of God. Not a hard establishment when all people are Godís creation and handiwork. We are all Godís children. However to bear truth that Jesus was the Only Begotten Son of God had to come from the miracle at the Baptism. When God spoke and said this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased in MatthewĎs account of the baptism. Baptism was not a foreign idea to the Jewish people. It was perform for proselytes of the Jewish faith, whether this tradition was in vogue before Christ other then John the Baptist is unclear. Yet this was performed as a cleansing ritual of new believers. The New believer after their circumcision healed would be baptized in faith and then ligher and weightier matters of the law would be taught to the new believer. Johnís words to the gentile nation had less significance then to the Jewish people. Yet the book of John written to the Gentile nation, and the book Matthew was written to the Jewish nation about the Messiah. Information retained in Matthew would have a greater effect as far as information that Jews would understand compared to the none Jews. Yet it is the testimony of the Holy Spirit that verified Jesus was the Beloved Son.

The witness of God or the witness of man which was greater. Only the witness of God is greater when those around at the time witness the Holy Spirit in action. For the retelling can only be marked in the heart of the hearer by Spirit as being truth. Idea of accreditations for books and such is great because it bears witness that what was written had meaning to someone or information is accurate. Jesus did not testify of himself but of God. His testimony would have been based on what was being taught in Jewish home and synagogues. Yet Jesus testimony would be based on who he was. The Old Testament would of bear witness to prophesy of his birth and accuracy of Mary virginity would have had to be established by the priesthood for anyone to believe. Establishment would have been through the carrying out the law to establish truth.

There a point faith alone is based on testimony but it must be believable and then experienced for oneself for one to believe the truth. The miracles of God at the Baptism would begin the wild fire in the disciples hearts that follow after Christ that day. Yet perhaps it was the testimony of John that spurred the disciples to follow Jesus, for without the teaching of customs would the miracle itself have any value. Have you ever why more did not follow after Jesus after the baptism. It had to be because the people understood not the significant of what had taken place before them. Not the normal baptism that day, by John disciples something unique had happen. Enough for a few to follow.

Faith must begin with testimony or act of God. It must come by Godís Spirit and can not be given by any other accreditations except witnesses. Faith is like that, but books on health cures, science, recipes must have a bases, or someone to try it out to see if there is any good positive witness of the truth. History must be given account by accurate sources. The faith builder must be God for in truth one can establish something perhaps by a picture but so many pictures can be faked today that no one would necessarily believe the accuracy of the picture.

How one defines a witness must mean truth to a person by at least one witness and more. As a child one can learn about faith and believe based on those stories alone, but as an adult something more must happen to keep the faith alive from story book faith. Disciples went with Jesus and the first miracle after the baptism would be turn water into wine. Odd way to start testimony. Unless one begins to realize it would take water of the word to the cross for the reality of the testimony to become real with the resurrection. Water no longer being just the word of God and miracles, but the blood poured out for you and me. Faith must be aged like fine wine. If I say I believe in UFO I am saying I could not identify the flying object I seen. It does not mean I believe in a flying saucer, it means I could not identify what I saw. I never seen a UFO but there people that testify they have. I do not doubt the first bat in the sky was a UFO, until Adam named it. Faith is not UFO, it is provable by faith in action as the Spirit leads, provable by God alone.

Dear Heavenly Father strengthen the faith of each and every believer and grant the non believe the witness of your Spirit to convict them to believe. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
