Galatians 4:22-31 KJV
(22) For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
(23) But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
(24) Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
(25) For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
(26) But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
(27) For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
(28) Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
(29) But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
(30) Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
(31) So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free. |
I personally believe Hagar a bondswoman believed in God of Abraham, yet God was her God. And for this reason I do not believe all of Ishmael children worship another God besides Jehovah, even though some may even been in Islamic nations. However I come to a problem though when Abraham cast out hagar did it make her children cast out of the promise of God, the answer is no. However in the order of faith and descendants of faith Ishmael children did not all worship God of the Old Testament. It is those children that are not children of promise. Why Paul put this in this in the letter to Galatians I am not sure. For it sounds as those believes in Christ are servants only in heaven. Though as a Christian I do not mind being called a servant of God. And believe in faith through both Old and New Testament, I question where did Ishmael go wrong if Paul felt these children were not part of the promise from old.
Some Ishmael children from 12 tribes followed after tribes of multi gods or sacrificing there children at the altar. Abraham had to sacrifice his first born in order for the Jews to receive the promise entitle to the children of Sarah. Abraham sent Hagar away to satisfy his wife Sarah. Did he know his God would provide for Hagar. I do not doubt he did. For at Abraham burial all his sons are there.
Most understand the first born rights of inheritance. If a person is born first their heritance is often greater. Yet bond servants were not consider equal, but in laws of harems the first woman to bare a son was the promise heir and that son held a position over another culturally. Abraham had tried to sacrifice Isaac and God saved him from being sacrificed by an offering of a ram. Protection of the sacrifical lamb that began before even Noah. Cain had not provided the sacrifice of a lamb. Yet God provided sacrifice of a lamb. Had the warring been to much that God said that is enough I sending you Jesus born of Jews faith, but also descendant of children of Moab. Ruth being the mother of Obed the father of Jesse, who was the father of King David. Ruth became a daughter of faith before leaving Moab. Yet Moab was a land of faith in God of Abraham from the time of Gideon when he set up a ephrod/priesthood or the law for the people that choose to believe in God. Over time culture of the past and the Jehovah intermingled. That the it was not purity of faith for some. Yet other groups would abide by the law of faith given them. The sacredness of the Ten commandments to all tribes of the world demonstrated through the Moabite people. Yet the law was abolish through Christ death and resurrection and restablished by the Holy Spirit written on the heart of every believer. There was no difference between Jew and Gentile. This controversy of bonds woman or first wife was no longer. Yet promise of God would come because of Israel sin, because of Israel transgression to restore the people of faith and to bring in those outside the Jews faith.
Let us not strive between who child we are in human since but let us strive to be children of God. I love my family, but family is not God, nor am I god to them. In fact in truth my God in heaven watches over me everyday. Yet people watch everything I do, just like they do the rest of you. Cameras on every street corner and every public or government building. Very few places that do not have camera’s somewhere. Yet those watching are not God, they are only human with human frailties.
God who watches over me is a God of love and hope and grace. Who came to visit has His Son has His word of promise and hope. To bring the lost to repentance and to demonstrate that all were welcome in His kingdom. The Jewish faith being like a mother of offspring, yet others followed in her footsteps. Not all receiving the promise of Jesus until told like Cornelius a soldier of Rome. Jesus came to bridge the world to God the Father. Taking away the need for sacrifice for sin. Came to say all have sin and fallen short. This passage is to who no segregation but how the world by human standards, yet God does not. He gathers all to Himself, both Jew and Gentile. The promise was for all spiritually speaking.
When King Solomon took power people would come to hear the wisdom of Solomon and two women came with a baby. They had fought over this child because the one woman had kill her son in her sleep. The woman choose to say the living child was hers and was not. Yet to figure out who was the mother, was to see who was willing to sacrifice there children first by claiming to solve the issue they just divide the baby in half. The moral of the lesson we can not divide God or His word. It comes whole and needs to be keep whole. Some groups divide both Old from the New. God’s promises is for all his children not just a few or who there family was or is.
I live in area where it is heritage and who you know seems important. But in truth none of these things are. You must be able to stand on your own two feet for who you are. Guilty or non guilty of sin before God. God’s already declared we all are sinners in his word. Let us not forget we all are not without sin, but we are all redeemable through Christ Jesus.
Dear Heavenly Father remind us daily how we are the same as all the people around us that no one is perfect but you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
