Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 7:1-32 KJV
1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
2 Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.
3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.
5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.
6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.
23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.

There are people that seek money, greed, and destruction of the Christian faith. I seek none of these. When one realize how many people join churches even in the form of deception as well as truth, it only a reminder how much the true faith must stand on guard of their churches. Not in spying technology but in prayer and seeking God's Spirit to bear witness of his children that wish to be a part of assembly of believers. New believers and newcomers might not understand this but those well in age need to teach it. All are welcome to join a church if one has received Christ as Savior. Some vote their members in and others just right their name on a list, never asking anything about their beliefs. Some seeking on tithe money from their members and others seeing people that might be future leaders in their church. Those that follow Jesus loved his teaching, his teaching made since, but at the same time they had prophetic truth to what was coming.

The prophetic truth of Jesus' arrest was pronounce because Jesus even knew he was hated by some. He knew because of who He is, but he also knew because of the whisper in the crowd. Jesus did not show up with all the Galileans at the passover, but went unobserved by the general public to the feast. He was hiden, but yet not hiding, for He entered the temple and began to teach. Those that sought to arrest Jesus was mystified by his teachings. Perhaps one might ask what had Jesus done to cause them to seek his life. He broke the Sabbath by healing, he taught wisdom and truth. Some might say he stood up to authority. He did it peacefully not to make trouble but to speak out against the hyprocrisy of the leaders. In fact this month we have been talking both about love and about this opposition that Jesus was causing. If we really want to take note Jesus exolts himself, when he claims the people had the law of Moses and he himself had God and was equal to the Father on more then one occasion. A psychologist today would of had found with his arguments never believing he was the Christ. Yet even some of the scribes believe in Jesus. Understood his meanings.

Many believe to obey the church rules is good enough, never understanding that to believe in God is to learn to walk by the Spirit of God in obedience to his Spirit. Those terms are foreign to unbelievers. It not a hard concept to understand, but it implies that by supernatural force of God's Spirit he directs an individual in the walk with God and in the world around them. Jesus taught in truth. There was a time when Israel marched to war by God's Spirit, no doubt some march not fully understanding this. It no different then today, you got those that walk by God's Spirit and others searching to understand it and others that wish to destroy it. Those that desire to walk by the Spirit often caught up by the law of Moses. Let me shed a little light on this. Jesus had done a healing on the Sabbath, some the religious leaders were doctors. They did not work on the sabbath to cure an ailment, if they did so it would be breaking the law of working on the Sabbath. Jesus healed and restored people even on the Sabbath. Did healings that no other religious doctor could. Now do you see the resentment coming. There should of been rejoicing and their was by the one healed, but not by the leaders because of simple jealousy. They were men that follow the law and did not take a leap of faith in the example of the prophet Elijah.

Faith is deeper then the law. It does not mean the law is not to be obeyed, it only a guideline on how to live to be at peace with others and most importantly God, yet those listening marveled at this teachings. They were profound, different then things they heard yet it was all scripture. I may speak of many things, not all things are of God. I am human, prophets of old dealt with many different issues in their personal life that truly showed their humanity. Yet Jesus humanity was one of perfection. Perfection alone could angry someone to jealousy. The human nature of people desiring to be better then what they truly are, or to have the power of another.

The religious leaders still sought to capture Jesus in a lies but could not because of his teaching were true, They had issues of who provided Jesus with such teachings, instead of reading scripture and studying themselves they rather question what Jesus spoke about. One of the most common mistake is for non believer and believers alike to fail to examine scripture, which is the most important document or should be to any Christian leader and Jewish leader. Old Testament Christ used in his day in the Synagogue for the New Testament was not yet written or recorded. A good teacher can interweave the Old and New Testament together, but it does take a percentange of time on some passages while others are dear to the heart that are remember and easily repeated. The comparison of Old and New. Have issue examine God's word. Be careful all ministers make mistakes because they are not God, but to ask to clarify they should be able too, or it might be something you have to ask God to clarify.

Dear Heavnely Father, help us all to seek you through your word and by your Spirit to see if those things taught line up with your word. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

Acts 17:11 KJV These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
