Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 5:24-26 KJV
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

He who hears Jesus' word that who he is speaking in this 24. Jesus is speaking in the verse above after a healing and the Jews were angry because he healed on the Sabbath. This was something he began saying to the people that were plotting to seek his life early in his ministry. There is a point here i want to bring forth. Some say all you need is Jesus and other says you need the Trinity and if you understand not the meaning, then you need to ask yourself one thing. What did Jesus teach about belief and who to believe in. We understand through scripture that Jesus has the godhead bodily present in him according to Colossians 2:9 and Luke 4:8 declaring still the Lord is who we are to worship. Jesus teaches to worship God. If the Jews could not understand through the miracles done who Christ was, he still told them at least believe in God and the works that he did.

We live in a scary world where many barely believe in God much less Jesus. Though there is many people in churches, the need of faith individually is not understood. Jesus in verse 25 of today passage makes a reference to the dead hearing Christ voice. When Christ was on the cross he cried Father forgive them for they know not what they do. Upon hearing the cry of Jesus the earth shook and the graves opened. And the dead arose to the glory of God the Father, who took them home. Yet Christ died and descend in to the lower parts of hell, only to be the first risen of church. The old is gone and new life through Christ Jesus came with repentance.The dead in Christ will rise first and the dead that remain will rise second. Is it victory over death for those that have been to hell. NO! Do they not still face the judgment seat of Christ. Let us not forget the story of Lazarus when Abraham showed him the man that use to torment him, suffering in hell. There was no hope for man in hell or for him to send an abassador to worn his family of hell. There is savior coming from below to save the world. Only a Savior that was conceived by woman by the power of the Holy Spirit. He would die on the cross for all mankind, descend in hell to set the captives free, only to rise up once more. His message meant to receive by man on this side of eternity. He had to experience the grave for us. (Ephesians 4:8-10). The believe upon death goes on to heaven. The sinner unsaved onto hell. Hell will be raised up to be permanently destroyed. The people that faced hell, will also face everlasting punishment in the eternal lake of fire. See the punishment continues for eternity. The reality of Christ seen with the second resurrection, only to be found in judgment for their sins first of unbelief and the other their works. (I Thessalonians 4:13-18 and Revelations 20:4-15).

What hope does man have if we do not believe first in the one that sent Jesus as declared by Christ. Yet belief in Jesus is spoken in scripture for belief as well. Now to speak of belief in Jesus would of really made the crowd angry in John 5, so Jesus tell them to beleive in God. Our faith must have a beginning point. To believe in Jesus we believe in the godhead bodily spoken in Colosians 2:9. The fullness being God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Yet Jesus is walking upon the earth before the people and many understand not who he is yet and some never would understand. We have people that believe in God but not Jesus. That where understanding who Christ is as Messiah is important. And understand that prophecy of Jesus is important. Jesus prophesied in John 5:25 that dead would rise at the sound of his voice. Yet we know that there is resurrection at the time of Christ death, but also at the time of Christ return and a thousand years later. The point being without Christ is there any salvation, no because there is no atonement for sin. We can not be saved without Jesus. Yet John 5:25 believe in God. We must understand this is before the resurrection of Jesus and not after. Father gave life unto the Son for eternity. Faith begins with the acknowledgement of God the Father and then the Son. You choose your eternity, but you also must confess your sin. The devil never admits fault, the believers in Christ all admit sin in need of salvation. Join the family of God and receive salvation today through Christ Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father help the gospel be clear even when those in opposition will understand the value of prophecy to yet to come. That those left behind at the time of Christ has hope through your return. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

Matthew 27:46-54 KJV
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
