Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 15:1-11 KJV
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

One thing about Christ we can see in scripture is that Jesus is in care of God. Meaning God takes care of his word. He is the gardener and Christ is the vine. John 15 speaks about God and Christ relationship as Gardener and vine. A vine tends to keep on running even in places it should not be, yet even in places it runs it produces fruit, and branches that have to be picked and clipped. The other day I took the dog to get his toe nails clipped and when he came out to the counter, I no longer heard her clickity clack of toe nails on counter or floor and if it was not for her collar I could not hear her coming anymore.

When God begins to prune the vine, he is taking away the branches that would not grow, would not produce and he throws them into the fire to be destroyed. Can these branches be graffed in again, only if God raises them back to life and graffs them in by his word. Can a vine grow outside the true vine and be graffed in. Can the gentile nation be graffed into the true vine. Gentile nation emulates to the point the vine of the gentile nation, is nourished and flourishes by Christ vine then it can be graffed in. Gentile nation bows in worships as the people of faith do, and give to those in need and bear fruit of love can they be graffed in because the produce fruit based on their desire and want to be in the true vine? There something that can not be and other things can only happen by the very word of God. If the Gentiles can be saved, they are going to have to be born again by God' word and spirit, not by deeds. To receive salvation one must believe and receive both God's Spirit and the Word meaning Christ and the written/spoken word of God.

Some might ask why am I speaking about both spiritual birth from the Old Testament to the New Testament. Christ being the serpent on the pole that anyone looking to him would not be bitten by the serpent. What pole, the one in Numbers 21 that Moses puts a serpent of brass on a pole for the people to look at that when they were bit, they would not die. I speaking about being born again by faith in Christ Jesus, to have eternal life(from John 3). In the wilderness the Israelites needed to be able to see their hope of their salvation in the wilderness. The hope they would not die. Christ is that hope in the wilderness of God giving his word that any man that looks to Jesus would be saved. Jesus is the physical serpent, but the spiritual serpent is the word. The word of God often comes with a warning. It tells you in Numbers if one did not look at the serpent he would die. Does God not tell us if we do not look to Jesus we will die. Does God not tell us we will live if we look to Jesus? He told the people if they did not look at the pole with the brass snake they would die of the serpent bite. If we look at Moses as being a serpent then we see he tells two things the warning and the way to escape. Yet all the time the people are looking at the serpent as salvation and not God or his word. Meaning looking to Moses instead of praying themselves. Yet when the serpent began to bite and kill, they came to Moses and said they had sinned against God and they repented of their sin, and they ask Moses to pray to God, because he was the one that made intercession to God for their sin and with request of any kind. They asked Moses to pray that God would remove the serpents from biting them.

God is allowing the intercessor to be Moses who was mere mortal. Jesus came in human flesh who was the word of God and became the intercessor because he was created by God. His flesh would die, but He would have new glorified with the resurrection. Moses would perform the sacrifice as a priest along with Aaron, to purify Israel, but it had to be repeated. Moses could not die for the nation of Israel or the world because he was not perfect, nor without sin as Jesus was. Christ died for our sins, and because he did, it did away with all sacrifice, because he proved God could raise his word back to life. God tends to the vine, tends to his word, whether to clip, or pick from it. He even nutures the root of the vine with water and the word, to produce life in the branches of the vine which is us that are part of the vine or graffed it in. The vine died, but is brought back to life by the power of God. God's children by faith in Christ Jesus may die to spiritually go to heaven or will be taken up to meet their Lord in the sky, all because they believe in him, and are saved by faith and not by works. Yet our works are a part of faith, because if we believe and receive Christ sacrifice for sin, we will have eternal life. If we look to Christ we need to follow in his example of willing to giver our all for God's kingdom. God will go about and tells us his business and show us through his word how to follow and obey him, so we too will bare fruit. To trust in Jesus is not to just to trust in what he says and do it. Just like Adam and Eve failed to believe God, he still has hope some of us will believe in his Son. He is giving you that choice. Be part of the vine, be fruitful and grow in faith, knowing Jesus saves.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to keep our eyes on Jesus and help us to be rooted into the vine of Christ. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Romans 11:16-36 KJV
16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.
24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?
25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.
29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
