God's Story: Lesson 25 12/25/2021
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 7:12-22 KJV
12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
17 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.
18 And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.
19 And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
20 When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
God has visited his people claimed the Jews with a resurrection of a young man, who was returned to his widow mother. John the baptist sent word when he heard the fame about Jesus spreading around while he was in prison, and wanted to know if Jesus was the one that was to come, or would there be another. The answer came after a little while when Jesus continue to make the blind to see, the lame walk, evil spirits flee, infirmities and plagues were healed, the dead raised and the poor hear the gospel message. Jesus told them to go tell John the things they had seen.
The testifiers to John, why was it needed. He was probably told from birth Jesus was the Messiah, but perhaps he had not witness these things himself that he heard. Were there doubts before he would be behead of who Christ was, though he had point to Jesus as being the Messiah. Who was coming after Christ but the Holy Spirit. Then God's people anointed by him would spread the word about Jesus and tell people to repent of sin and receive Christ as Savior and Lord.
Today is Christmas, and how we look at a manger and see a beautiful image of a baby lying there, but Jesus did not remain in the manger, he would grow into a man in the flesh, with divine divinity has his very soul. John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit but his soul was not the Holy Spirit. John anointing was from birth, a call on his life before birth by God the Father. Jesus is the Father, and yet few knew him as he heal people of all their diseases, casting out evil spirits and raising the dead. Why is this, perhaps maybe the story of Elijah, was such that the evidence was only a reflection of Biblical history. The events so told that it was part of their way of life. The Jews that were blind because of knowledge and not understanding a prophet, a Savior was among them. John the Baptist not seeing but only hearing the rumors sent two disciples to check it out. It was the best evidence he could have while in chains.
Now we get to think on this subject what would we believe at the time of Christ's birth if we stood by, and what about now? What do we believe, this story is renacted over and over again, year after year to remind us of our Saviors birth. That God was willing to send a part of himself to be the Savior of the world. A part of his Spirit to shine in the world among men. Are we like John seeking more evidence, or are we like Peter who says you are the Christ to Jesus, when asked.
Is that same anointing/baptism by God's Spirit that Peter and John received on the day of Pentecost still in the world today. Is God's Spirit still with us today. Most ministers that believe will say yes, and believer in Christ will agree, he still with the believer. He not going to leave the believers behind, dead or alive, they are with Jesus. As believer do you know the reality of his Spirit if not ask to receive his Spirit today, continue to ask him to cleanse you of all unrighteousness, to purge you, and make you whole by seeing his power work in your life to his honor and glory. Disciples would soon learn after Christ death what was to be like John the Baptist in prison, but they had hope of eternity so etched in their minds, they feared not the chains or death or the reality of Christ.
What then if we only know from personal experience but never seen a miracle, never witnessed an answer to prayer, would we still believe? It much more then that, our prayers this Christmas is answer for a pill to cure for Cov 19. It not the only cure out there. After all Christ still heals today, but it is not to be used as let see who win game. I meet a doubter that thought just that. Many Christians know that science can play a big part in human comfort and healing, but Christ can do it all, and sometimes he wants people to need each other. To bring comfort and love to each other. In sorrow, in hardship, the need is there. Yet do we look for God's supply, or the world's supply. God is the God of all comfort, can we extend a hand of love to others. Let us pray not only for solutions the world can see, but for the miracles they know are truly from God alone. Can we spread the word the Messiah is alive, He has born, He healed the blind, the lame, the plagues, diseases and raised the dead. Can we tell others Jesus still does these things today. Let us go forth in unison sound the bells of Christmas with the news Jesus lives, he lives within our hearts today.
Dear Heavenly Father fill us with your Spirit those that believe, and speak to those who do not believe, so they to may be filled and know Christ as Lord and Savior today. May they experience your presence in their life, to give them hope, knowing with repentance you forgive them. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

1 A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
