Everlasting Priesthood 12/02/2020
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisNumbers 25:10-13 KJV
10 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:
13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
The priesthood is often looked at religious law teachers and executors not just of Jewish faith but any faith really. It the one that execute judgment of religious law. Religious law once rules Israel before the time of Kings. Prophets or priest lead Israel, time of Abraham he meet a prophet of old name Melichedek, he was a priest of the great high God, the God of everlasting and God of peace. With this thought in mind when God bestowed a title to someone it was for a reason but it also was a covenant or promise of the eternal priesthood in heacen. The priesthood of God. The one's that followed after God and not after the priesthood of Aaron. See when God instructs man and man a part of a priesthood they make choices to obey God and not to obey God. Even Aaron failed God when he made a golden calf. Yet he was of the priest of God, his failing short lived with correction of serverity of death of many that worshipped the golden calf and pledge allegients to it. Aaron was only a palm in the worship service as a leader that was respected, though he cared nothing of the golden calf(Exodus 32). When Moses came off the mountain Aaron stood with Moses and anyone that did not follow died that day. Religious law executed. This took place not to far from the land of Egypt when all the plagues occurred, so people had knowledge of God's wrath. Now Phinehas turned away God's wrath from the children of Israel or he would of consumed them on more then one occassion by performing the sacrifices by the laws of God. Because of this he was able to maintain peace with God himself and receive from God an everlasting priesthood meaning a place and role in heaven.
Now if we look at the continual scripture we can understand that Aaron being part of the everlasting priesthood by faith, but not all the priesthood of Aaron was of faith in the everlasting God. There were those that performed the rituals of faith without faith, even corruption ruled and reigned within the priest at times. These corrupt priesthoods had no place in heaven, they were consider false teachers. Now Jesus was a high priest in the order of Melchidek and not in the order of the priest of Aaron because he followed the ways of God, and was consider a blasphemer because of his disobedience to the law at times. Was Jesus a blasphemer no. But by traditions set by the priesthood it appeared he was. Eating with sinners and unclean hands. Eating with those that were lost from faith in God to teach them the ways of God. Christ the Son of God set up a royal priesthood. A priesthood in the order of Melchidek, a order of believers. Believers by faith in God, Christ being the first because who he is as only begotten Son of God, but also because he first risen from the dead after his death and resurrection. The first to be a witness of his own eternal security as he ascension into heaven at the time of resurrection and time on the mountain with the disciples watching. Jesus being the Word of God coming as promised as the only begotten Son of God by virgin birth. No other would come by virgin birth by word of God command by the Holy Spirit coming upon a woman except Mary.
When we understand this priesthood of God is more then laws and rules but the believing in Jesus makes you a joint heir in the kingdom of God and part of the royal priesthood and also a prince of God in the order of Chrsit being first, then you can take God's word as promised to all mankind that believes in his Son his free gift and witness to God's promise. Christ came to die for our sins giving us atonement as the Priest Phinehas did through daily sacrifice and yearly sacrifice he performed in the scripture passage above. He understood the need for sacrifice for sin or payment for sin and performed it by the law. Jesus was sacrificed by that same law by the cross, and atonement was given through his resurrection. When you ask Jesus to be Lord and Savior of your life you asking him to forgive you of your sins as you accept his death as payment for your sins and through his resurrection you recieve new with him. You given title of eternal Priesthood and princehood and also known as a child of God to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your free gift of eternal life through Jesus who died for our sins. Help us to understand our role as priest, prince and child of your kingdom to obey you and to walk in your ways. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 7:1-28 KJV
1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:
6 But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.
8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.
9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.
11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
13 For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
20 And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:
21 (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)
22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:
24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.
25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.
