Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisGenesis 48:1-9 KJV
1 And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.
2 And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.
3 And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,
4 And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.
5 And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.
6 And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.
7 And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Bethlehem.
8 And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who are these?
9 And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.
Genesis 49:9-12 KJV
9 Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?
10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
11 Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass's colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:
12 His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.
The little town of Bethlehem where Christ was to be born is first heard about when Joseph mother past away at Bethel. Ephrath was another name for Bethlehem in scripture and called the house of bread. Now not to confuse anyone Judah is the tribe that the kings came from, but Bethlehem is the land where Rachel wept for her children. Land of Bethlehem, the land where David was born. The land the promsie Messiah would be born in. David was a direct descendant to Baby Jesus. Yet if we get so bogged by hertiage and lineage we be examining scripture all day. It good to study the genelogy once but not dwell upon it, because Jesus is the Son of God born of a Virgin and in truth Joseph family had no title to the Messiah, it would of been Mary's line.
To trace the roots to Judah and to blessing of Jacob upon his son Jospeh as far at the history of the land. The value of the land as far as the chosen Messiah would come forth. Yet in Genesis 48 we see the title of lawgiver, speaking out of the tribe of Judah the Messiah would come. He is from Old and everlasting that comes. He from above and there more reference speaking of Christ being from above and we being from below. Man was placed in the garden of Eden, Man was form the dust of the earth. Two place heaven and earth. Two things that will pass away for all things to become new.
What my point to dwell on location and prophecy of location it takes quite a bit of thought. It not something to dwell upon, but something to understand God's eternal plan had a place, location and time. When we talk of scripture we see time of hope of return from Egypt to the land God had promised, before enslavement persecution to Israel came in the land of Egypt. Then Micah is a prophetic book that speaks of the Messiah as well in the hopes of his coming and location, as well as the seige and return of Israel to come. The hope laid in the Messiah coming. The hope Israel as believers had that had not fallen to idols and sin of destruction. Not everyone was unfaithful to God. Yet the prophecy was for hope. Yet if you look at the thousands and thousands of years spans between time frame, the hope was never lost to the believer. The waiting for the promise is the hardest part.
Dear Heavenly Father help us to know the blessing of the time frame had a purpose and time that past but still necessary to know your promises of faith will come. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Micah 5:1-4 KJV 1 Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
3 Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
