Be Not Afraid Of What YOu Will Speak
12/31/2015

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Jeremiah 1:5-10
(5) Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
(6) Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
(7) But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
(8) Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
(9) Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. (10) See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

The calling of God is clearly unchangeable. Yet your station in life might be. Samuel would walk among kings and so would Jeremiah. Both walking by the spirit of God before the time of Christ in the calling of being a prophet. Samuel prophesied doom as well as Jeremiah. One would like to think all prophesy is like the prophesy of the coming Messiah before Jesus’ birth, but in truth judgment is also a type of preaching of destruction. When one is called to preach destruction it can shake a person as well as make them feel inadequate for the job. Jonah was so called to preach judgment and ran at the calling to go to Nineveh. Yet what the point. You can not run from your calling. It is much easier to be called as a child then as adult. A child knows only what he is taught and what he searches out on his own. An adult sees it from the world and the religious world. The toughness of the streets and towns to the safe haven of the church. Yet the called of prophet or prophetess is not without consequences for even the prophets of God where slain in scripture. One like to think of only the devil being killed and his prophets, but that further from the truth.

Now imagine from a young child Jeremiah had heard the stories of the Bible and new God but had yet to be called until he heard the voice of God for the first time calling not only his name but telling him to preach. Not to just preach good things but judgment as well. To tear down and to build up. In truth one rather build then tear down or out, but there time things have to be torn out, cleaned out and stored. People at Christmas sometimes go through last year things and keepsakes to decide whether to put them in a box to sell in spring. Yet no one wants that job until they get those new things under the tree. If something does not fit it is returned to the store and replaced with something else one desires.

Will Jeremiah would be doing spring, summer, fall and winter cleaning in Israel. Is calling to root out to preach, to build, to destroy, by the use of the word of God. God’s word is a mighty sword, it aimed at the heart. One can rebel against it, turn from it but they can not escape the words of God forever. Sooner or later one meets mercy of their maker or the judgment of God. To prophesy is not by choice but by calling. God even used a donkey once under Balaam to prevent him from going forward against God. Your direction and your words will not always seem like coming from the Lord, but it just might be. It is a prick of the Holy Spirit to the believer speaking to ones heart. If it is audible voice no one else might hear it, for Jesus himself heard the voice of God but it only sounded like mighty rushing wind to some. Yet what God’s word is not is a bunch of chickens, clucking information through grapevine. That is a devil tool. Beware of the false prophets.

Jeremiah calling was for the destruction of evil in the lives and hearts of God’s people. It was to build up God’s people and to warn them against the devil. It was encourage them in time of exile because not the whole nation was for God. Some people’s hearts had been turned away from God and because these people refused God’s way judgment had come to them. Jeremiah called as child not knowing the world beyond what he could see with his own eyes and what he had been taught, was called by God not to use his words of wisdom but the wisdom of God’s word. To speak the things God called him to say. For God would put his words in Jeremiah mouth. Never be afraid what God has called you to say. Speak it as God tells you to and open your mouth and allow God to freely use it. Ask God to use your lips today for his glory and honor not for destruction of human words but his sword of his mouth through you.

Dear Heavenly Father may your words of praise, thanksgiving, building and destruction come forth from the mouth of each of your prophets and children today. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
