Christmas 2015: Finding and Fearing God
12/25/2015

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Matthew 2:9-12
(9) When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
(10) When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
(11) And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
(12) And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

Merry Christmas 2015, no doubt you believed the reports this day was coming unless Christ has returned to take his people home, then that would constitute a difference type of celebration and yet the same. As children tumble out of bed in hopes to see their dreams and wishes come true by the opening of presents. I can remember years ago seeing the presents not yet put under the tree and figuring out if I got what I asked for or not. Hoping that I was right until Christmas morning came until I could open the packages. If dad and mom had known I told my sister about the size of the packages my parents would of killed me. Yet Christmas morning I was not disappointed in what I discovered under the tree.

As the wise men came to a house not a stable a few days maybe a year or two later after searching high and low for the new king, the star rested over a house. A house where Mary and Joseph was staying. Whether it was rented or own no one knows, but what we do know that upon seeing the child the wise men worship him, and gave his gifts of wealth. The wise men knew from the star that it was a baby or small child they were searching for. It was a child not so ordinary but one that would be a great king. They found what they expect nothing less nothing more, but they knew when they found it, that their Savior had been born.

The wise men now seeing the promise beneath star, knew it shined bright because of a special babe that was born. Their fear of God now enhanced because of their find enough so that when God said not to go back to King Herod they obeyed instead of obeying the word of the King. Had the evidence of the baby to be king been enough to cause a fear to obey Israel’s God. Where the wise men were in their faith in God is unclear, but what we know is they feared the God of Israel enough that they obeyed instead of returning to King Herod. Obeying God maybe for your protection or another. After all by obedience to God it gave Joseph and Mary time to escape to Egypt. God’s divine will is protection for a purpose. This was God’s protection through dreams and through prophecy to seers from afar. Their testimony to Joseph and Mary that God’s protection was for a purpose.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your plan of protection of life until it is our time to die. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
