Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Matthew 2:1-8
(1) Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
(2) Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
(3) When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
(4) And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
(5) And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
(6) And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
(7) Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
(8) And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

The greatest journey one will ever go on is the search for the Messiah. It begins with the first knowledge of God and continues on till one is standing before the Messiah for the first time. The dawning of truth of the Messiah begins with the searching of scripture from early verses of Christ died for me, to God so loved the world, and many verses through out scripture that speaks to the heart of who Christ is and why he came. If we measure the point to the cross and the cross to heaven one would find a wide range of grace. Grace that called one to salvation and continued through the journey. When we deserved to be struck down God’s grace came to us before salvation, through the convicting of the Holy Spirit, a holy God, who seen a person that was in need of some light. If all the wise men could see what that one star promised of a Messiah yet to be born and kept their eyes focused on that one hope, they one day would see their hope.

The journey for the wise men started with many errors along the way, from false religions and idols until the Messiah star appeared. Some people will grow up in false religions only to find Christ later on in years. Some follow false religions because of how they appear to have light and have only darkness of evil within them. Those that follow dangerous cultic activity will find themselves looking to a false hope if they remain to long, never knowing the truth about a loving God that cares for them.

The star of David that appeared to the wise men lead them to the false king Herod. Though he was earthly king he was not the Messiah or father of the Messiah. Yet the star rested above the palace. Perhaps it rested to wake the gentiles in the palace of the Christ child appearing, to also the priest in Jerusalem. The star was great importance because it meant a threat to the throne of King Herod. Yet he seemed curious enough to get the scribes of the Jewish people to find out when this child should be born and where. Scripture points the way but the Gentiles ever believing yet never receiving at this point for the king would one day crucify all the baby boys from new born to age of two because despite the request the wise men never returned to the king to tell him where to find Jesus. If Herod had wanted to know why did he not travel with the wise men. If He had wanted to truly worship he would of followed these men because of the star that had not been seen in the sky before stood above his palace. Yet the new star was not enough to convince the scribes or the king, only the wise men of east continued on their journey in search of the new king.

You might be searching for Jesus for the truth that He is who He says he is, continue in your search, for He will reveal himself to you by His Spirit, but do not expect all the evidence you find to convince another. For the prophesy of old to the time of Christ is evidence enough for a believer. For the none believer only God’s knows what will convince and break the harden heart against him.

Dear Heavenly Father break the chains of unbelief in those who are looking for the truth of the Messiah, knowing God will not leave them out if they will only believe. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
