Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

John 7:39-53
(39) (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
(40) Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
(41) Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
(42) Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
(43) So there was a division among the people because of him.
(44) And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
(45) Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
(46) The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
(47) Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
(48) Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
(49) But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
(50) Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
(51) Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
(52) They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
(53) And every man went unto his own house.

Jesus is to be born in the city of David, the town of Bethlehem. The one error given today is the not following of scripture of Christ birth place. Yet one can understand full well the error made. For John covers not the birth of Christ, some at the time of Christ that knew scripture would of not of realized that Caesar had put out a decree to the world to be taxed in their home city, and that Mary would have given birth in Bethlehem No doubt her friends would of known. Yet what no one ever realized is that Joseph was from Bethlehem for linage would be what took his betroth and him there. God’s time table is not ours. God design of location is act not fully understood by human nature. One can know Mary probably grew up in Galilee. In fact it would make sense considering Mary linage would have the priest line and Joseph the kingly line. Those that followed Jesus would not of necessarily known his father origins for Joseph is not mentioned in scripture after the temple event in Luke 3, where Joseph and Mary found Jesus in the temple talking to the leaders in Jerusalem. Yet we know Jesus had other siblings.

The linage of Jesus important but only crucial to where he be born because of taxes. People questioning Jesus linage knew where the Savior was born and yet the Scribe Nicodemus kept that information hushed. Nicodemus would also take care of the body after burial, Nicodemus was the one coming and asking about being born again in John 3. Nicodemus would of known the truth or maybe it would be revealed to him later. What we know is he did not try and correct the people’s error.

The Pharisees in John 7 were looking for a reason to put him on trial. They were searching for a way to entrap. Jesus spoke not up for himself at that time. Perhaps the reason why, he knew the crowd would crown him king if they knew his birth. Or perhaps he only answered questioned directed at Him. Yet whatever the reason this issue was not correct right then. God was going to harden the people heart so they would not believe Jesus was the Messiah. They would not argue he was a good prophet and a man. But Emmanuel that was much hard to grab hold too as truth.

Let us hold to facts of Jesus birthplace and the fact God design a way to bring them there in time for Christ birth place through the gentile nation. God is going to use whoever to bring about his promises. We must hold on to our faith in Christ. Knowing the truth and spreading it, so the world may know.

Dear Heavenly Father reveal your spiritual truth of who Jesus is not just to our hearts but through scripture. May your word speak loud so when we doubt, it brings us back again to full measure of faith. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
